The 2020 high school volleyball season won’t be without highlights from several 15th Region junior middle hitters and middle blockers.
Here are five 15th Region junior middles to watch.
Hannah Akers: A middle hitter, Akers is a student-athlete from Pikeville. Akers registered 115 kills, 34 blocks and 28 in 35 matches for Pikeville during the 2019 high school volleyball season. One of the top players due back for former 15th Region frontrunner Pikeville, Akers is agile and consistent. Akers is expected to be a leader for perennial 15th Region title contender Pikeville in the 2020 prep volleyball season.
LaRanda Francis: A middle hitter/middle blocker, Francis is a student-athlete from Phelps. Francis was a leader for Phelps throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting a team-high 164 kills in addition to 49 blocks and 44 service aces. Versatile and reliable, Francis has shown the ability to excel along the middle of the net while contributing regularly in multiple positive categories.
Madison Hamilton: Among the most versatile volleyball players in the 15th Region, Hamilton is a middle hitter/outside hitter/right side hitter from Betsy Layne. Hamilton excelled for Betsy Layne in 2019, posting 277 kills, 307 blocks, 91 digs and 49 service aces in 35 matches. Highly productive, Hamilton blocks well individually and with teammates.
Caley Howard: Among the key players returning for reigning 15th Region champion Floyd Central, Howard was productive throughout 2019. Howard recorded 190 kills and 82 blocks for Floyd Central during the 2019 high school volleyball season. Athletic, Howard moves along the net well and has shown excelling jumping ability.
Kyleah Ward: A student-athlete from Lawrence County, Ward helped to lead her team throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season. Ward, an experienced middle hitter, recorded 193 kills, 47 blocks and 49 service aces in the Bulldogs’ first 30 matches during the 2019 campaign. With size and a diverse skill set, Ward is among the most promising junior volleyball players in the state.
