Here are four 2nd Region freshmen to watch.
Rylee Owens: A defensive specialist, Owens is a student-athlete from Christian County. As an eighth grader during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Owens was a member of the Christian County varsity volleyball team. A defensive standout who boasts experience, Owens is expected to chip in more for Christian County during the 2020 high school volleyball season. Owens is a strong back row hitter who digs and pursues well and can deliver from the front row if needed.
Sarah Peebles: An outside hitter/defensive specialist, Peebles is a student-athlete from University Heights Academy. Peebles contributed in each of 2nd Region runner-up University Heights’ 36 matches as an eighth grader during the 2019 high school volleyball season, recording 20 assists, 46 digs and 12 service aces in 51 sets. Helping University Heights notch 30 wins and finish runner-up in the 2nd Region, Peebles thrives offensively and defensively. Highly versatile, Peebles reads opposing defenses efficiently and possesses numerous defensive skills herself.
Julia Thomas: A right side/middle hitter, Thomas is another student-athlete from University Heights Academy. Thomas played in 30 matches as an eighth grader for 8th District champion University Heights during the 2019 high school volleyball season, recording 18 blocks, 8 digs and 4 kills in 41 sets. A stout hitter from the right side and a reliable blocker who sets ups blocks efficiently, Thomas uses quick attacks on offense regularly.
Taylor Troutman: An outside hitter/middle hitter, Troutman is a student-athlete from Henderson County. Troutman chipped in as Henderson County captured the 2019 2nd Region volleyball title. Agile, Troutman is expected to contribute more for reigning 2nd Region champion Henderson County during the 2020 prep volleyball season. A go-to hitter, Troutman has shown the ability to be a consistent primary passer and read opposing defenses and call out hitters.
