They would like to cap off their senior season by punching their teams’ ticket to the State Tourney in November. Gering’s Head Coach Amanda Cochran looks for her team to improve a little bit each day and has a very motivated team that has shown good leadership qualities so far this summer. Let’s take a look at these two senior setters.
5’8″ Macey Boggs Senior Setter from Gering, played club for Panhandle Jr.’s 18’s team: Boggs had 751 set assists last year which was good for 6th in Class B and had 63 aces which had her 4th in the Class B charts. She also chipped in 69 kills. Macey was at the PrepDig Expo in LaVista last December. She had great hands and could distribute the ball nicely all around her hitters. She squares well to her hitters and has a great back set. One thing that really stood out to me was her ability to talk and lead girls she did not usually play with and was very positive regardless of the outcome of the play. She had a lot of energy and I could see some really good leadership skills from her. Coach Cochran had this to say about her setter, “Macey is an extremely motivated individual. She is a high achiever and always pushes herself and her teammates to keep getting better. Macey is very intelligent and does a great job with set distributions. She always tries to make her hitters better with her ball placement and is always the first to send praises to her teammates. She has fast feet and will give all out effort for every ball. With very high volleyball IQ she is a great leader for our team.”
Boggs commented on the upcoming season about her goals for the Bulldogs, “Our team’s biggest goal is to put in work every single day to reach our highest potential. I would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to play with my teammates at state! My personal goal is to improve my individual setting skills, serve my team to the best of my ability, and develop leadership skills that are essential for the college level.”
5’7″ Billi Alvardo Senior Setter from Alliance: Billi averaged 8.5 assists per set for the Bulldogs last fall. She ended the year with 742 set assists, 26 aces and 275 digs. Alliance’s Head Coach Jessica Kaiser said, “Billi ran a 5-1 for them last year. She is a quiet player, but leads by her hustle on the court and gets to a lot of balls that you don’t think she will be able to. She has a tough aggressive serve and she knows that Billi is really looking forward to her senior season.”
It will be exciting to see these two seniors lead their respective teams in the Western Conference come this fall!
