Some players miss the opportunity to make their way onto a list due to missing all or a good chunk of the season due to injury or other circumstances. Today we want to start highlighting some of these players on our All-Bounce Back Team. These are players who missed all or most of last season but would have contributed to their varsity programs. They look to bounce back in 2020 with a strong season. Also, these players are more than capable of contributing to a college program.
Tamia McClunie – 2021 – MH/OH/RS – Blue Springs South
We highlighted McClunie briefly in our uncommitted right side list last month. The 6’0″ middle/pin hitter was expected to finally contribute to the Jaguars in 2019. She played her first two seasons on the junior varsity, stuck behind a deep 2019 class. McClunie suffered an ACL injury during the club season, which shelved her for the entire high school season. She was more than likely going to make her way back for the second half of the club season that was cut short due to the pandemic. Though she was likely welcoming the opportunity to get back on the court, the added rest and recovery may have been a blessing in disguise.
Rylee Staatz – 2021 – DS – Liberty North
Staatz was a steady performer for the Eagles in her first two seasons. She earned All-District Honorable Mention and was also an Academic All-State Honoree. She missed her junior season with an ACL injury. Her rehab has been encouraging and she looks forward to getting back on the court. In Staatz sophomore season, she played in all 76 sets for Liberty North. In those sets, she contributed 246 digs from the defensive specialist position, and 252 passes in serve and receive.
Makya Clayton – 2023 – OH/Setter – Lee’s Summit
Clayton was set to have a big freshman season a year ago. Unfortunately, she missed almost her entire freshmen season with a dislocated knee cap. She is back and looks stronger as she prepares to set in the 6-1 this fall for the Tigers. Her volleyball IQ is off the charts and she plays her club volleyball with PVA.
Valencia Zamora – 2022 – DS – Park Hill
Zamora missed the 2019 season after a strong freshman campaign. She returns this fall and will be a much-needed piece to the Trojans defensive back row. She demonstrates a strong skill-set. She reads defenses very well and anticipates location to get to balls. In her freshman season, she had 209 digs to help lead Park Hill to a district championship.
Grace Lyndes – 2021 – DS/L – Liberty North
Lyndes is a speedy back row defender who was hampered by concussions for most of her junior season. She has shown the ability to play defensive specialist or wear the libero jersey during high school and club ball. In her 16 sets last fall, she had 13 digs and 21 passes in serve and receive. She showed her sophomore season she can contribute at the varsity level by having 100 digs in 51 sets played.
