Continue ReadingThe Prep Dig Sizzle featured some of the top athletes in the state. There was Prentice from the Northwest, Southwestern and Riverdale from the Platteville/SW Wisconsin area, Westosha Central in the Southeast and the Northern Aces out of Oconto in the Northeast. With teams being under various restrictions all spring, the level of volleyball was extremely high. The energy was beyond any expectation. To see these athletes play live is completely different than on video, it’s much easier to see all of their intangibles and true impact they have on the court. For the college coaches reading this article, take note, these players have stayed in shape, polishing their game and as incoming Seniors, have really shown what they will be able to do this upcoming season.
Natalie Tesch Natalie Tesch 5'10" | S Wisconsin Lutheran | 2021 State WI of @WiscoVB has been so fun to watch throughout her career. Great energy, so dynamic pic.twitter.com/4hNc5uogtc

Natalie Tesch Natalie Tesch 5'10" | S Wisconsin Lutheran | 2021 State WI – Wisconsin Lutheran
The 5’10 lefty might be one of the most dynamic players in the state. She can do everything from scoring points on the right side, setting, and bringing so much energy for her team. As someone watching this Wisco team, they just bring so much energy, competing every point. Her options at the next level are plenty with her skill set, but also as a person. I know she has been to sing the national anthem at a tournament then hop on the court and start doing her thing moments later.
Elle Truckenbrod Elle Truckenbrod 5'9" | OH Kettle Moraine Lutheran | 2021 State WI – Kettle Moraine Lutheran
Two years ago, Truckebrod was the new kid on the block as a Sophomore, but this past weekend there was just a different presence about her. The maturity, leadership, and overall consistency in all facets of her game. KML has a lot of moving pieces with players who can play different positions from different grade levels, but Truckenbrod will be the nucleus for this squad.
Lauren Borchardt Lauren Borchardt 5'8" | OH Manitowoc Lincoln | 2021 State WI of Manitowoc Lincoln could be a dual sport college prospect. Volleyball and track. So springy! pic.twitter.com/vRtB3FvKum

Lauren Borchardt Lauren Borchardt 5'8" | OH Manitowoc Lincoln | 2021 State WI – Manitowoc Lincoln
Borchardt is electric and I know she is also a star when it comes to track and field. D3 is typically easier to double dip with sports and for plenty of Wisconsin D3 schools, this athlete has to be on your radar where she would not only make a name for your program on the volleyball court, but out the track as well. She is solid all six rotations and is able to be creative in how she can score points.

Hannah Derenne – Luxemburg-Casco
Long, athletic, maybe 6’0 or 6’1, Derenne was an X-Factor for L-C enroute to their state title in 2019. She’s a right side, six rotation player who is solid defensively at the net and in the backrow. Well trained, well coached, she can execute what is open to score plenty of points and works well with setter Emma Johnson Emma Johnson 5'10" | S Luxemburg-Casco | 2022 State WI from the Class of 2022.
Olivia Burcaw Olivia Burcaw OH Prentice | 2021 State WI , the player you need to know about from Prentice, solid all around with a knack to score points! pic.twitter.com/EL6U5rSB90
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) July 9, 2020
Olivia Burcaw Olivia Burcaw OH Prentice | 2021 State WI – Prentice
Prentice definitely stood out among some of the D4 schools with some big wins which included wins over D1 schools. Burcaw is one to watch live. Her leadership on the court, positive body language, and extremely high IQ. For the old baseball fans out there, she is Greg Maddux. Meaning she nibbles on the line and corners, using the block to her advantage, changes speeds, and keeps the ball in the court. She finds ways to score which seeing her live, it all brings it together!
Lizzie Binder Lizzie Binder 6'2" | OH Sheboygan North | 2021 State WI – Sheboygan North
Binder can score points on the left or right pin, but this past week she was actually found setting a majority of the time. Whatever is best for the team. With her volleyball IQ and hands, she stepped into put her team in position to compete with plenty of the teams in their pools. North had a strong couple of days and will be ones to be sneaky good in the FRCC.
High character, great student, leader, and so consistent all around as a Libero. Has improved each year. Brooke Anderson Brooke Anderson 5'2" | DS/L Kimberly | 2021 State WI of Kimberly and @FCEliteVB pic.twitter.com/ONX8nl5UwF
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) July 10, 2020
Brooke Anderson Brooke Anderson 5'2" | DS/L Kimberly | 2021 State WI – Kimberly
Anderson is the libero you need to make all of the routine plays. She is also one who has consistently improved every year of her high school career, creeping up on the radar, and would be one to have in your gym at the next level because not only is her skill ready for the next level, she would be an extra added boost to your culture with her ability to work hard, lead, and be a great teammate.
Joslyn Wolff Joslyn Wolff 5'10" | OH Waterloo | 2021 State WI – Waterloo
The past couple seasons, Wolff has been splitting setting duties with Brooke Mosher Brooke Mosher 5'11" | S Waterloo | 2021 State WI where this season it looks like Sophia Schneider Sophia Schneider 5'10" | S Waterloo | 2023 State WI from the Class of 2023 will be the second setter and Wolff will be a six rotation outside. This provides a whole new dynamic for the Pirates where Wolff can be a scoring threat out of the backrow as well.
Ammerae Peebles – Notre Dame
Notre Dame is always going to have athletes, they have built a solid program and tradition that will find a way to compete. Ammerae Peebles will most likely step up to be the libero for the Tritons this season who will be ones to watch in the FRCC. Peebles plays with such energy and enthusiasm for this relatively young team and will be one to lead in 2020.
Amalia Fox – New Holstein
New Holstein may have brought the most energy and enthusiasm to the gym Thursday and Friday. Legendary celebratory photos time and time again. They had game to back it up. Fox is an uber athletic middle that was so active on the net. She is a blocking force, but was also one who could attack all over the court while finding the classic zone four tip out to score points. If New Holstein can stay in system they will be tough to stop with their middle tandem which also includes Karly Schmitz.
Linnea Willer Linnea Willer 5'11" | OH Freedom | 2021 State WI – Freedom
Willer coached the JV team on Wednesday and took the court Thursday and Friday. Another athlete who carries herself with such poise and maturity. Freedom is now putting themselves in conversation with some top teams in D2 and last week showed they will definitely be a threat to contend with once again in 2020.
Abby Fregein of @WestWaukesha has Always been a super crafty outside but would be a huge steal at the next level as a DS/Libero! pic.twitter.com/zfoJAuw4Z1
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) July 10, 2020
Abby Fregien Abby Fregien 5'7" | OH Waukesha West | 2021 State WI – Waukesha West
Fregien has always been the high IQ six rotation outside hitter for West where she’s played in the state tournament as a Sophomore. The incoming Senior still has the same IQ and all the shots, but she will be a MAJOR steal at the next level as a DS or libero. She has the backcourt attacking skills and is so solid in serve receive. West has such an athletic crew, always fun to watch.
Elsa Sheperd – Pewaukee
Young middle blockers can learn so much from Sheperd. She approaches and transitions so quickly, she makes herself available to attack, always an option. She is also relentless going from pin to pin to close the block. Being a middle blocker is tough, there is a lot of ground to cover and they have to know what’s going on everywhere. Sheperd does it, and then some, such a fun athlete to watch who really is a student of the game.
