Continue ReadingClass 2 is a wide-open class this year. Hermann moved up to Class 3, which left the field with no clear, proven winner. Several schools have come out of the gates on fire, but the season is still young. After the weekend tournaments, maybe a couple of teams will widen the gap, and some of the undefeated teams will take some L’s. We looked at teams strength of schedule and schedule of the opponent’s schedule to determine rank.
1. Cabool 15-1-3
Off to a hot start, and only loss is to Class 3 Dexter. Took down Licking 3-1 and knocked off Liberty 3-2. Four hitters averaging 2.4 kills or better in Olivia Scheets 2.4, Hailey Shannon 2.8, Josie Atkins 2.5, and Alexis Hunter 2.7, the Bulldogs pack a powerful punch.
2. Valle Catholic 11-1-1
Valle has a weekend at the Jackson tourney, where they will play Advance and Lesterville in pool play. With Riley Siebert, Sam Loida, and company, the Warriors look to do some damage this weekend. The only loss was to Park Hills Central, who they also have beaten.
3. Licking 12-3-2
Two losses to Cabool so far is opposite results of last year when they faced off this early. Give Kamryn Barnes and the kiddie corp time to gel come districts to meet Cabool for the 3rd or 4th time.
4. O’Fallon Christian 1-3
Now the Eagles haven’t exactly had the chance to play much, but when they have played, it’s against Borgia twice and St. Dominic. That accounts for all three losses, and the strength of the schedule will be like no other Class 2 school. I still rank them for what they have and what I think they will do down the road—only Class 2 with a D1 commit in Addison Lyon Addison Lyon 5'10" | S O'Fallon Christian | 2021 State MO .
5. Skyline 14-0
Start with a win over Clever is the only one that stands out in the season. This weekend they have a date with Class 3 El Dorado Springs. After the weekend, the tourney should give us a little more insight into how formidable Skyline will be.
6. Miller 9-0
Another team off to a hot start, but the level of competition is subpar. The schedule picks up here in the next couple of weeks. Can’t count out Alli Mitchell, Claudia Hadlock, Ashten Kingsley, and Kaylee Helton. The move from Class 1 to Class 2 might help Miller this year
7.Lawson 13-0
Cardinals are off to a blistering start, but the opponents are combined 29-49. They did have a nice win against Class 1 Santa Fe to start the season 3-2. Sophomore Anna Harrold 121 kills and senior Lake Manns 80 kills are the two leading attackers. A more vigorous schedule would move Lawson up in the rankings.
8. Clever 9-3-1
Lost to Skyline but did take a good Class 3 Reeds Spring to 5 before falling. At the Strafford tournament this weekend, where a possible rematch with Skyline. Kylie Wenger and Kenna Wise seem to make the team go.
9. Arcadia Valley 9-5
The four defeats were too good teams Advance, Dexter, Cape Notre Dame, and Park Hills Central. Maddie Dement and Gracee Smith anxious await the October 8th meeting with district and conference rival Valle Catholic. A loss to district rival Jefferson moved Arcadia Valley down in the rankings.
10. Strafford 7-7
The record doesn’t dazzle you, but the competition should. Willard, Carthage, Marshfield, and Springfield Catholic are just a few of the teams on this list for Strafford. Christa Duffel, Sophia Frerking, and Ashley Suter are the three main attackers leading the team. With more experience for the junior and sophomores, respectfully, they are a dangerously looking team come playoffs.
