However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
District 14: (1) Lawson (2) Lafayette County (3) Lexington (4) Cristo Rey (5) University Academy – October 26th and October 28th @ Lawson
Lawson is 21-0. The other teams combined have 21 wins. Sophomore Anna Harrold and senior Laken Manns have had productive seasons in the kill category. Defensively, senior Ashlyn Staton has been solid. Lafayette County (5-13) is a fairly young team boasting two seniors. After losing five in a row, they finished the regular season with an impressive win over Richmond. Lexington (7-10) has defeated Lafayette County as of late and will have confidence entering their match-up. Cristo Rey and University Academy will play to face Lawson.
University Academy over Cristo Rey. Lawson makes easy work of University Academy. We like Lexington to repeat what they did last week, defeating Lafayette County in four sets. Lawson keeps their undefeated season intact with a sweep of Lexington in the finals.
District 16: (1) Carrollton (2) Trenton (3) South Harrison (4) Brookfield (5) Penney – October 26th-27th, October 29th @ Carrollton
Host Carrollton will be your number one seed in District 16 action. Every team in this district will enter with a record under .500. The Trojans sport an 8-12 record. They are solid defensively with the back row play of Destiny Idom and Zoey Appleberry. They’ve only won one of their last seven and look to get a streak going this week. The number two seed Trenton Bulldogs come in with the same misfortune as Carrollton, winners of 1 match out of the last seven. Senior Evy McCullough will look to lead a spark. South Harrison will be the third seed holding a 2-11 record. Their last match based on MaxPreps was October 10th, so we will see how the layoff affects them going into their matchup with Trenton. Brookfield (1-12) and Penney (0-16-1) open up against each other.
Brookfield over Penney. Carrollton over Brookfield. We like Trenton to take care of business against South Harrison. In the championship match look for the defensive play of Carrollton to carry them to a victory.
