However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
District 14: (1) Odessa (2) Boonville (3) Oak Grove (4) Richmond (5) St. Paul Lutheran – October 26-28th @ Odessa
Odessa (13-3) as their record indicates has had a great 2020. They won their first 10 matches but are 2-2 in their last four. Junior Cali Meierarend has led the offensive attack with close to 200 kills. Senior Brooke Geary has been a great leader from the setter position. The Pirates of Boonville (14-9) will be your number 2 seed in this district. They will enter winners in 3 of their last 4 times out. Oak Grove (4-10) enters district led by senior Destiny Valentine. They’ve struggled down the stretch but finds themselves in an opportunity to potentially grab a round 1 win. The Spartans will be your 4th seed in this district and will essentially be in a play-in gave versus St. Paul Lutheran for the right to face top seed Odessa.
We will take the 5 seed to advance to take on Odessa, who will then when that match. In the 2 vs. 3 face-off we like Boonville, who is playing well as of late. Odessa will prevail in the championship to face the district 16 winner.
District 16: (1) Maryville (2) Savannah (3) Benton (4) Cameron (5) Chillicothe – October 26-28th @ Cameron
This is in our opinion is Maryville’s (15-2) district to lose. They have the most prolific scorer in the group in Serena Sundell. They are winners of 7 of their last 8, with the one loss coming to Class 5 contender Rock Bridge. Savannah (9-3) comes into the district with a winning record. They’ve had success against a couple of the teams in this district but were defeated by the top seed in three sets. The Benton Cardinals (4-7) also enter with limited matches in their 2020 season. Cameron (8-6) and Chillicothe (7-9) will open up olay battling for the right to see Maryville on night two.
Cameron knocks off Chillicothe to get knocked off by Maryville. We like Savannah to defeat Benton in a close fight. Maryville will ride the arm of Sundell to capture the title.
