However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
Districts 13: (1) Grain Valley (2) St. Michael’s the Archangel (3) Warrensburg (4) Marshall – October 27th and October 29th @ Warrensburg
Grain Valley (18-9-3) has been impressive this season and will enter this district as the top seed. They have a diverse cast of characters who can score points. As a team, they are just under the 1,000 kill mark with four players having more than 150. St. Michael (6-13-1) has the experience to advance out of this district. Their record isn’t flashy but with vets like Calista Bokenkroger and Carly Johnson, they will stay in contention. The third seed Warrensburg (8-5-1) hasn’t had scores updated in the last two weeks so it is tough to get a read on them. They are a young team looking to advance with only two seniors playing consistent sets. Marshall (12-8-1) rounds out the grouping winning three of their last matches. Senior Emma Schulte has had a strong year with just under 300 kills.
Grain Valley is playing with a ton of confidence so we look for them to defeat Marshall. St. Michael’s will find a way to get past the host team Warrensburg in the 2 vs. 3 match. Grain Valley will take care of business to win the district 13 title.
District 15: (1) St. Pius X (2) William Chrisman (3) Winnetonka (4) Van Horn – October 27th and October 29th @ Winnetonka
The Warriors (10-6) appears to be the team to beat in district 15. They’ve played a schedule that puts them in a position to compete in the postseason. They are a balanced team that serves aggressively and plays good defense. William Christman (8-9) has a team that could also win this district. They are tournament tested and has enough weapons to win two matches. The third seed, Winnetonka (10-14-2) were fast out the gate winning five of their first six matches. They have a tough test to open this district. Van Horn (10-11) is another young team who just needs time. They have some players who have improved over the course of the season and will keep getting better with playing opportunities.
St. Pius will hold seed and knock off Van Horn. Chrisman and Winnetonka have faced off once this season, with Chrisman getting the victory. The rematch will play out the same way with the Bears getting the victory. We do believe St. Pius schedule and the teams they faced this fall give them the advantage and will side with the Warriors to claim the district championship.
