There are going to be some difficult times for everyone but there will still be opportunities to showcase their skills. I’m going to outline some teams that did not win their conference last season, people need to watch out for. The first team to watch is Mother Seton.
Mother Seton was an outstanding team last season that was extremely deep. Yes, the squad was led by some seniors but the team was not afraid to play their younger players. This presents a grand opportunity for them to improve off of a 19-3 campaign.
The team is bringing back some outstanding talent and have the potential for a something special. The squad finished runner up behind J.P. Stevens last season, this will be an outstanding test to see if they can challenge Stevens this season.
Some players to look out for are Isabella Maertz, Liahnna Orange, and Fiona North. Maertz is an OH & O who is an all-around player. Last season she had 64 kills, 117 digs and 27 assists. She has all the tools to have an outstanding senior-season. She will be called upon to be the voice in the locker room as the team did lose some significant leadership.
Liahnna Orange is a setter who started right away and made an immediate impact for the squad. She had 361 assists last season and I would not be shocked even in a shorter season where she could potentially reach that number again. She finished with 31 kills and 105 digs to showcase her ability not just as a passer. She will not be one to have a sophomore slump.
Lastly, Fiona North is another OH, O and like Orange she saw immediate playing time as freshman. North finished with 109 kills and 117 digs which finished second in both statistics for Mother Seton. North and Orange are going to be a duo to watch out for the next couple years.
My only concern for the team is at the position of libero as they only had one on their roster last season. This is the only concern that is significant for this team. Will there potentially be a position change for someone on the current roster like a Shawna Stevens who was a defensive specialist, who knows? If they address libero, this team will be formidable.
This is a squad that has depth with 9 potential returners from last seasons’ squad and will be able to create an immediate impact in their conference. Watch out for Mother Seton.
