Keys provides a good physical presence in the middle as she has good size at 5’11 and is strong in her offensive play. With average elevation off the floor, she makes up for it with the power she can generate through her arm. She has good work ethic to make herself available and develops a good relationship with the ball and setter as she approaches to swing. She is most effective in front of the setter through a quick tempo although she does have the ability to swing overhead off of one foot. Her level and contributions are elevated with her club team and the increased play and skill level around her. She has good tools that will be fun to watch continue to develop.
Arica Thies – MH | Fairfield
Thies contributed well this high school season as a middle for the Indians. At 5’11 she makes good contributions on both sides of the ball in which she showed quality moments fundamentally and in her production. Offensively, she elevates well enough to create a high reach and when on time and balanced she showed ability to take a healthy swing through varied attack points. Her improvement in timing and generating a more dynamic lift will increase her effectiveness and efficiency. The defensive side is where she may have made the biggest impact in 2020. In averaging 2.1 blocks per match, she watches play development well and has strong hand penetration across the net to slow down opposing attackers.
Kaitlyn Uffman – MH | Cincinnati Christian
Uffman is this team’s best athlete and has the tools and athleticism to cover a lot of floor and create good angles on the defensive side, which might seem rare as she played primarily in the middle while in the front row. She averaged 10 digs per match this recent high school season. At the net, she took a lot of swings for the Cougars in averaging 3.1 kills per set with a 45% kill percentage. She improves her efficiency and power in the air if she can develop a true double-arm lift to get her left arm up in front of her for added elevation and balance.
Lauren Young – RS | Oletangy Berlin
This 6’0 opposite can get on the ball well and generates good pace and movement through a high-elbow arm swing. She has good size and shows fluid footwork to stay on balance when elevating, which allows her to use her size well in the air. She was a big part of the Bears offense from the right side and was an OCC-Cardinal first-team all-league selection for her efforts in 2020.
