Located in Bowling Green, KY, Barren River Area Volleyball Organization has been a premier club for about 12 years. They just recently started a beach program and offer regional teams for locals. For club season in 2021, their BRAVO 16 Black team, coached by Morgan Shipley, should be quite a squad with a lot of talent in every position. Here are some key players that should make their team stand out!
Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY – From Bowling Green High School, Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY helped lead her school team to the region finals losing to ranked, Greenwood High School. As just a sophomore, Austin earned all-district and all-region honors for her incredible passing ability. If you watch Austin, she is so smooth with her platform and performs exceptionally well in serve receive. Austin will be a big asset to the 16 Black BRAVO team, so watch out for her leading the team in the back row!
Lily-Kate Carver- Also from Bowling Green High School, Lily-Kate Carver was a star player on the JV squad and hit outside for the varsity team. Carver shows great promise for BGHS with her smart shots and efficient out of system hitting. She started playing beach this past year and earned two bids to Nationals! Lily-Kate’s fierce determination makes her a great player, and she wants to continue her journey to the collegiate level. Be sure to see this girl in action in 2021 on the BRAVO 16 Black team!
Paige Logsdon- A sophomore outside hitter from South Warren High School, Paige Logsdon will be an excellent player for the BRAVO 16 Black team. She’s been apart of this squad since 12s year and has continually been that solid all-around player. Logsdon helps the offense and the defense with her competitive nature and love for the game. Starting for SWHS, Logsdon led her school squad in their last district semi-final game with 14 kills and showed her persistent fight. This girl is a fun player to watch, and it will be interesting to see the impact she has for the BRAVO 16 Black team.
Caroline Law– An intriguing story, Caroline Law is actually from a different region than all of her teammates. She plays for Ohio County in Region 3 where Law has been the starting setter for her school team since 7th grade. Her sister, Anna Law, was one of the reasons she played up for the high school team. Anna was a great hitter in any position, and she’s now a freshman volleyball player at Queens University. Caroline is following right in her talented sister’s footsteps where she’ll be the star setter for this BRAVO 16 Black team. With her sweet hands and knowledge of the game, Caroline will be a great asset for this team!
Kara Gipson- Back to the region 4 players, Kara Gipson was a starting middle hitter for the South Warren Spartans. She’s always been known as “tall,” but this year she put on a show for high school. It was her first year of truly showing her offensive skills. Kara played beach over the summer which improved her overall play and knowledge of the game. This of course helped her indoor game where Gipson started every time for SWHS and tallied up at least 7-8 kills a match. Gipson was a force in the front row and will be a huge part of the impending success of the BRAVO 16 Black team.
Rachel Dezarn- From Logan County High, Rachel Dezarn helped her team to a district championship and clenched a spot in the all-tournament team for district and region. Dezarn is one of those hitters that can be effective at ANY position and will the put the ball away anywhere you put her. This is Rachel’s first year playing for BRAVO, and it will definitely be interesting to see how she meshes in with this squad. Only a sophomore, Rachel Dezarn has tons of potential offensively and will continue to be one of those hard-working kids no matter what. Watch out for this one on the 16 Black team!
