Newark East Side Gets Their Revenge
Newark East Side and Livingston were both teams first matches and it did not disappoint as it went three sets with Livingston coming out victorious. In this one, Newark East Side had other ideas as they swept Livingston in dominant fashion (25-17, 25-16). Nickolas Lima was the catalyst throughout with 9 kills, 1 block, 4 digs and 5 aces to lead Newark East Side.
The squad came out fast and gave Livingston no opportunity to get themselves back in the match as the squad has 11 aces. Livingston was led by Chris Lynum with 7 kills and 3 digs in defeat.
Ridge Finally Makes a Statement
Wholeheartedly in my opinion, Ridge has had the toughest schedule so far this season challenging themselves every opportunity they can get. The final obstacle was to get over the hump and that’s exactly what they did in a rally over Hunterdon Central.
A couple weeks ago it was Hunterdon Central who rallied over Ridge, this time it was vice-versa. How did they do it? The squad dug in defensively. Ridge had five players with 9+ digs to keep them in points and flip it quickly into offense. This was the moment I waiting to see from Ridge all season in their 23-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory.
Bayonne holds off St. Peter’s Prep
In what many would call an upset, I would not as Bayonne fended off St. Peter’s Prep where the final set could’ve gone either way. Bayonne got off a fast start while St. Peter’s came out flat in the first set. The second set St. Peter’s put emphasis on their defense to keep them in points. Lastly, the final set could’ve gone either way with Bayonne winning 26-24. Bayonne just showed more determination and execution down the stretch.
Timothy Jimenez did everything he could to keep St. Peter’s in it with 3 kills, a block, 11 digs and 18 assists. Meanwhile, Eliass Nid-Youssef led the way for Bayonne with 9 kills, a block and 3 digs.
