They were pushed to their limit’s yesterday and remarkably were taken down. There will be a new king at the top of NJ after Southern and Ridge were both defeated. Let’s look at how it all went down.
Christian Brothers are the New Kings
In a matchup of perennial powers, Christian Brothers put everyone on notice as they took down Southern 2-0 (25-18, 25-20). The squad jumped out to a quick start in both sets and then held off Southern in each set. Who was the difference? Colin Stevens.
Stevens was going to be in a battle going up against Southern’s dynamic duo of Matthew Leonard and Dylan Lockwood and he rose to the occasion. He outset both of them combined finishing with 26 assists. He was in control from the gecko and always made the correct pass and kept Southern off-balance by not knowing where the ball was going. It was a master-class performance.
Jack Dooling contributed as well with 11 kills and 9 digs. Tommy Deakyne led the way for Southern with 8 kills in defeat. So what does this mean? In my opinion, Christian Brothers just dethroned the present king, therefore making them the next team to sit on the throne at the top this season.
Ridge and Bridgewater-Raritan gives us one of the Top Matches of the Season
In an epic match between two powerhouse programs, both teams did not disappoint as Bridgewater-Raritan rallied in three-sets to defeat Ridge 23-25, 26-24, 25-22. Momentum swung like a pendulum with both teams trying to pull away from another but never could. Ridge had an opportunity to close it out but Bridgewater-Raritan showed more guts to rally and pull off the victory.
There were top performers everywhere you looked but the one who really took control was Conor Regan. Regan had 15 kills, a block, 8 digs and even an assist just for good measure. He really caught fire in the latter half of the match to close out the victory. This was a statement victory for Bridgewater-Raritan
As for Ridge, I mentioned this earlier that they have played a daunting schedule. This was another learning experience to help them for the postseason, the next step is trying to find ways to close out these tough matches. Ross Bancken led the way with 3 kills, 9 digs and 27 assists.
