Breakout Performers at the WKU Volleyball Camp
Recently, WKU volleyball held their yearly team camp for schools to scrimmage against other squads and test out different lineups for the fall 2021 season. Here’s a list of athletes that were complete standouts at the camp!
Addie Atcher– A class of 2023 recruit from Central Hardin, Addie Atcher proved to be the leader of her team. Atcher was the person to set when she was in the front row and became the energy of the team. She led the team last year with 279 kills, averaging 3.4 kills a set. She had a record high game of 15 kills against Elizabethtown when they barely lost the region championship 9-15 in the fifth set. Her numbers only show her ability to perform under pressure and be the go-to of the team.
Julia Thomas Julia Thomas MB University Heights | 2024 State KY – Sophomore for University Heights, Julia Thomas Julia Thomas MB University Heights | 2024 State KY will significantly help her team in the front row as a 6’2 middle/right side. As just a freshman last year, she helped the team with the second highest number of kills at 145 and the most blocks with 58. During club season, she was named to the JVA watch list for the class of 2024. Thomas played for the Tennessee Performance Volleyball club in Franklin. TN and only got better for the future school season. Watch this stud make waves in region 2!
Amirra Bailey- A name everyone will be hearing for years to come, Amirra Bailey started on the varsity squad as just an 8th grader. Standing at 6’2, Bailey hit middle and right for the Bowling Green High School Lady Purples. As an 8th grader, she fits right in with the other girls on and off the court with her standout skills and vibrant personality. Bailey has a live, fast arm and her press blocking wise is something to see! Amirra will be a force for the Purples this year and has a bright future ahead of her!
Isabella Myers Isabella Myers 5'11" | S Ballard Memorial | 2022 State KY – A 5’11 senior setter for Ballard Memorial, Isabella Myers Isabella Myers 5'11" | S Ballard Memorial | 2022 State KY was a stud at team camp. Yes, she’s a setter, but she also helped the team as a middle and outside side hitter. Myers can run a fast offense and keep her team in system from anywhere. Her ability to impact the squad from every position is something special that you can’t find in many players. Myers helped lead her team to a 22-3 season last year, so it will be interesting to see her try and top that record her senior year!
Kaitlyn Sampson- An incoming junior for the Ohio County Lady Eagles, Kaitlyn Sampson showed off at team camp with her all around skills. Last year, she led the Eagles with 193 kills and 143 digs while also tallying 66 service aces. Sampson was the go-to hitter last year as just a sophomore, and she has only improved as an outside hitter. Watch out for Sampson in region 3!
