Jaidyn Jager, 6-0 Outside, La Costa Canyon – The Mavericks’ regular-season leader in kills showed her upside throughout the season, none more so than in the final contest heading into the CIF-SDS Open Division playoffs. Jager put up a season-high 24 kills and hit .345 in a four-set victory over rival Torrey Pines. It was the 13th time this season she reached double-digit in kills. It topped her previous season-high 17 kills in a sweep over Del Norte on Sept. 15, when she hit .412. Jager also led the Mavericks in digs with 316 and aces with 50.
Madisyn Parady, 5-7 Setter, La Costa Canyon – Parady was another rookie the Mavericks relied on this season. She led the team with 518 assists running a 6-2 during the regular season. She dished out a season-high 24 dimes in a four-set victory against Sage Creek on Oct. 13. It was the fifth time she reached at least 20 assists in a match. She entered the playoffs averaging 5.3 assists/set. That wasn’t her only contribution, as she was third in digs (145) and second in aces (46).
Liv Durr, 5-11 Middle Blocker, San Marcos – While limited offensively in her first year on varsity, Durr’s impact was felt by would-be attackers. Durr tied for second in blocks with 74 during the regular season, averaging one block per set. She delivered a season-high 7 blocks in a 2-1 victory over Sage Creek on Sept. 4. The match before she served up a season-high 5 aces a victory against Otay Ranch.
Sara Dukes, 5-11 Middle Blocker, Mission Vista – The Timberwolves earned a berth into the CIF-SDS Division 2 playoffs with Dukes providing defensive contributions on the blocking end. She wound up second on the squad in stuffs, putting up 92 during the regular season. She also chipped in with 58 kills. Dukes’ season high in blocks came in the final contest heading into the postseason when she had 13 rejections in a four-set loss to San Dieguito Academy. It bested her previous mark of 12 in a four-set triumph over Oceanside on Sept. 29.
Abigale Glassett, Libero, Escondido – The season is over for the Cougars but it looks like they found their defensive anchor for the next three years in Glassett. The freshman led Escondido in digs with 387. It featured a season-high 27 saves in a four-set setback to Mission Vista on Sept. 1. It was one of four times Glassett recorded at least 20 digs in an outing.
