There were thrillers, upsets, top matchups and more. So let’s take a look some of the biggest takeaways from Week 4 of the season.
Every Conference is Still Up for Grabs
We may think that their is significant separation from certain squads and deem some better than ours. However, that does not mean these other squads don’t have a fighting chance. No team has clearly separated themselves in their conference which means it will all come down to the wire for interesting weeks ahead because it doesn’t matter how dominant or great you are. Anyone can be beaten on any given day and that’s why we play the games.
We need to take Rutherford Seriously
These young ladies on the Rutherford squad continue to win and win and prove doubters wrong including myself. They just are rallying off victories and not all of the wins are the same as they are winning in a multitude of ways. Offensively, defensively, all-around game and more.
Jocelyn Rodriguez as been an absolute dynamo for them with 91 kills and 97 digs. When you have a player that can carry the team when needed, they will surprise people. A matchup with Bogota still looms down the road and that will be the final test.
UCC Struggles
The normal powerhouses in the UCC this season just don’t seem to have it. Westfield can’t stop the bleeding as they’re in the middle of a four-match losing streak and part of it is due to playing tough competition. But the team is much younger this season and are experiencing some growing pains. There is still plenty of time to turn it around.
Meanwhile, Union Catholic now is raising some flags as this is now potentially a consecutive season under .500. The team was young in the spring but these ladies all have returned and the team still has the same issue with slow starts. Again, there is time to turn it around but let’s see the fire from the start. The team has the talent and just needs to put it together.
