Coming onto the scene this year for the Pirates and making a massive impact for her team, Nelson led the Saint Louis area newcomers with 405 kills on the season. The outside hitter also dug up 261 balls and was a primary passer for her 23-8-2 team. Watch out for her to make significant improvements during the club season.
Katherine St. John | Jackson
The long, athletic outside for the 30-7-3 Indians was a pleasure to watch. Not afraid of competition and did what was needed for her team to win. The 6’1 freshman finished the year with 354 kills and was the 2nd in kills in the area for a freshman. Another big outside hitter that will dominate as the years go on.

Jordan Smith Jordan Smith 6'4" | OH Francis Howell Central | 2025 State #59 Nation MO has to be one of the best freshmen in the state for her position. The right side hitter provided her Spartans with a colossal blocker and terminator on the right. She ended up third in kills for a freshman with 331 kills and finished with 44 blocks and 146 digs. I can’t wait to see what she does over the next three years.
Hannah Leftridge| St. Pius X (Festus)
One great hitter graduates for the Lancers, and Leftridge is waiting in the wings to take her spot. I ended the year with 301 kills and 252 digs, so look for Hannah to be her team’s star next year.
Maya Witherspoon Maya Witherspoon 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2025 State #44 Nation MO | Lafayette
If I were to pick the best freshman in the city, it has to be Maya Witherspoon Maya Witherspoon 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2025 State #44 Nation MO . The silky smooth middle for a power program at Lafayette fits right in with the other power hitters. She ended the year with her best match in a sectional loss to Marquette with 21 kills and ended the year with 252. Keep an eye on this one because she will be a high D1 recruit.
Lillian Paul | Lutheran South
When I watched her play this year, I was more impressed with her helping run the offense for the Lancers. She would end the season in 6th place in kills for a freshman in the Saint Louis area. Give her a couple more years under her belt, and she will pass up big sis, and that’s saying a lot.
