What did it take? Resilience. Williamstown jumped out to commanding leads in both sets to see them vanish late in sets as Paul VI made their run at them. But in the end, the Braves made just enough plays in crunch time that was the difference.
You could see the match easily going the other way to Paul VI but fate went with Williamstown with both squads leaving every ounce of effort out on the court. Joanna Andrews provided to be the catalyst offensively like she had all-season finishing with 17 assists in the match.
On the other side, Sadie Arasim continued her great play with eight kills and four digs to lead the way for Paul VI. With the loss, the Eagles’ 18-game winning streak came to an end in their first ever TOC appearance.
For Williamstown, this is their first-ever Tournament of Champions crown. What a moment for this team. It becomes more and more difficult to go unbeaten because you are going to get everyone’s best shot every night which means one slip-up on your end leads to a loss. The Braves ensured that was not going to be the case. The deeper, they got into the season, the better they wanted to play to keep the momentum going. And what was the end result? Perfection!
