Here are eight athletes that should make an impact for their teams this weekend.
ACADEMY 17 RIPTIDE (17-2)
We’ve already spent time talking about the 1s team in this age group at Academy, but there is plenty of talent on Riptide. Probably the most significant of the bunch is Leslie Groff (’23, 5-10 OH, Fishers), who can play multiple positions in a pinch. Currently listed as a pin attacker, Leslie has also seen time as a middle, which should attract smaller schools because of her volleyball acuity. Kiah Jackson (’23, 5-10 MB, Carmel) has a deft touch on offense and strength on defense at the net that will make an impact for whomever wants her. A pair of pin attackers in Allison Daves Allison Daves 5'9" | RS Scecina | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-9 RS, Scecina) and Abigail McCoy (’23, 5-10 OH, Scecina) can control a game on their own or together. Allison has a heavy left arm that can hit all angles, while Miss McCoy is a great six-rotation option on the left.
TEAM INDIANA 17/18
The combined classes of ’22 and ’23 make up the bulk of this roster, and for the purposes of this article, we’ll talk about the ’23s. All four listed here have been under the radar for too long, starting with Gabrielle Piche’ (’23, 5-10 MB, Mooresville). Her abilities off of two feet make her a prime M2 candidate for small schools. Her long arms also help on defense. Kayden Simmons (’23, 5-7 DS/L, Triton Central) may be playing DS for the majority of club season, but is fully capable of being a primary passing outside for smaller schools at the next level. Natalie Sexauer (’23, 5-4 DS/L, Traders Point Christian) is the smallest of the bunch, both in stature and in school size. She’s a left-back queen that has clearly earned the special jersey, and is smooth in her delivery of the ball to the setter. Samantha Luttel, (’23, 5-5 S, North Decatur) makes the move over to TI from the Academy, and brings her fast feet and well-located sets with her.
