A lot of exciting action took place. Here is how day two shaped up for the Open and USA teams.
18 Open
Dynasty Academy 18 Adidas got the day started with a key victory on Minnesota Select in straight sets. However, they would fall short against FC Elite and Vital 18 Gold in three to fall to 1-2 and finish third in their pool and out of bid contention.
The other Kansas team still in the hunt, KC Power 18-1 matched their local foe with a 1-2 day. Their day looked a little different losing a three-setter to start the morning before clawing back to take down Houston Juniors in their second match. The third match win would put them at 2-1 and runner up but they went down in a third set thriller, losing the final set 13-15.
In Division 2 action, both PVA 18 Elite and Pohaku 18-1 went 2-1. The difference is PVA finished second, while Pohaku would end up third in the tie-breaker. Dynasty 18 Black went 2-1 on the second day.
18 USA
We talked a little about Static 18-1 yesterday, a team we missed in our opening preview as they emerged from the first day still in bid talks. The second day was a little more difficult to manage, as they would go 0-3, dropping every set. Shockwave 18 Ryan had a strong first day, but like Static, had difficulty finding the win column on the second day of the competition. Static and Shockwave will finish the tournament in the bronze bracket.
Mizuno Club North 18 Angela tasted big tourney defeat for the first time this season. The good news was it was only once, as they went 2-1 on the day and kept their bid upgrade dreams alive. 417 Juniors 18-1 finished the second day in the lovely 1-2, three-way tie and it went their way in the tie-breaker for a second-place finish. They won their opening match in three, before losing the others in three, meaning 4 sets win and enough to advance. Both teams will start gold bracket play in an attempt to qualify in the USA Division.
In the USA Division 2 for day two, Fight Club 18-1 rebounded after a tough first day to go 3-0 and a perfect day in sets.
