Continue ReadingWith over 900 teams and using over 130 courts, the Bluegrass Prequalifier is easily the largest two-day tournament anywhere around Indiana. We have no shortage of teams from the Hoosier state attending this tournament, bringing in teams from all over to compete. In some cases, it’s the first (and only) time that JVA-specific and USAV-specific teams play each other. One of the clubs in question is Munciana, a founding member of the JVA. Here are five athletes from Munciana’s 16-1 that have already made waves this club season. You can find them Saturday morning on court 62.
’24, Lauren Evans Lauren Evans 6'0" | OH Carmel | 2024 State #136 Nation IN , 6-0 OH, Carmel
Long and lean, smooth and fast, Lauren is the quintessential six-rotation outside hitter that most teams covet at the next level. She attacks with an aggression not normally seen at this age level, regardless of how in- or out-of-system the set is. Her platform in serve receive is steady and smooth, and her feet get her to places that shorter outsides can’t get to. As a primary attacker, passer and all-around player, you can’t go wrong with Miss Evans.
’24, Delaney Lawson Delaney Lawson 6'2" | OH Bellmont | 2024 State IN , 6-2 OH, Bellmont
Similar but different is Delaney to Lauren. Miss Lawson is also long and lean, uses her skill and aggressiveness to go over, around and through blocks, and is fully capable of taking over a match offensively if the need arises. The biggest difference might be in arm length—Delaney appears to take up more space on the block, which at the next level is key considering how much bigger and faster the game in college has become.
’24, Taylor Lewis Taylor Lewis 6'1" | OH Cathedral | 2024 State #179 Nation IN , 6-1 MB/OH, Cathedral
Coming into her own this past fall is Taylor, who doubles up with basketball in the early club season. I like her more as a middle for the defensive addition she can bring, but she’s just as adept on offense, adding nearly three kills per set while hitting .300 in the fall. Currently projecting to be a three-rotation right side or an M2, Taylor’s athleticism and high volleyball IQ will carry her far in her recruiting travels.
’24, Emily Reno, 6-0 OH, Delta
Not used as a back-row option in high school, Emily is a six-foot beast of an attacker on either pin that plays much bigger than her frame. Interchangeable on the left or right pins, Miss Reno terminates at a very high attack point and can alter shots because of that length and strength in her upper body. She can hit any tempo ball located anywhere from pin to pin, and has the video footage to prove it. I’d like to see more of her defensive capabilities down the road, but for now, she’s a needed asset for anyone needing size and strength.
’24, Tiffany Snook Tiffany Snook 6'2" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #186 Nation IN , 6-1 MB, HSE
Another long and lean kid on the Moana, this time a full-time middle. Tiffany can attack off of one or two feet with ease, transitions quickly, and is up and ready to swing well before the block is capable of stopping her. Her extra-long arms are also a problem for opponents, as Miss Snook has altered more than a few shot selections from opponents recently. For now, I see her being a guaranteed M2 at the next level, with the potential of being an M1 when her strength catches up to her skill.
