Many cities host their own tournament, and I’ve been to a bunch, but none are more fun for me than the one at the America’s Center in Saint Louis. This article will touch on five players from this massive bunch that will be crushing it on courts 70 and 71 during the morning wave on Saturday.
’24, Lauren Harden Lauren Harden 6'3" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #36 Nation IN , 6-3 OH, Hamilton Southeastern
The offense starts and ends with Miss Harden. Already attacking at over ten feet, Lauren is learning the ropes on her serve receive, back row defense and attacking from the back row. Not that she’s never done it before, but she already knows what she doesn’t know, and her training has already made big differences this club season. Look for her to be the primary attacker for this squad.
’24, Lilah Odegard, 6-4 MB, Lawrence North
Did I say “massive”? Lilah, a right side last fall, has been moved to the middle this club season, making her all the more marketable to multiple larger schools at the next level. Her length and strength will guide how successful she’ll be, and she’ll need to use all of that 6-4 frame to excel in the 16 Open division this weekend. As of this writing, she projects out to be an M2, with possibilities of turning into an M1 if she develops those one-footed attacks more.
’24, Madison (Maddi) Evett, 6-2 OH, Hamilton Southeastern
The second of three Royals on this list, Maddi uses all of her attack jump to pound over blocks with ease. She’s a solid three-rotation outside right now, and could probably play right side at the next level simply because of her size. Her 15-1 squad at TI last spring finished 3rd in 15 Open at AAUs in Florida last year, so she’s also used to pressure matches.
’24, Lucy Kay, 6-1 MB, Fishers
Stronger as an M1, Lucy’s attacks behind the setter can come in multiple tempi, and she’s always up ready to attack. Also, she uses her long legs to defend from pin to pin at an above average level for her age group. I like her fast feet, her transition, and her ability to hit multiple shots regardless of where the ball is set.
’24, Sydney Lohman, 5-7 OH/DS, Hamilton Southeastern
The shrimp of this bunch, do NOT underestimate Sydney’s abilities. Her attack touch is just as high (if not higher) than everyone not named Lauren Harden Lauren Harden 6'3" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #36 Nation IN , and is a six-rotation outside to boot. Her explosive jump and arm will take her far in the recruiting process, and is the ball control left side that every school should covet when looking for one in the class of 2024.
