Here are five players looking to make an impact this weekend, starting their weekend in the Dome of America’ Center Saturday morning on court 2.
’24, Kierstin Mitchell, 5-6 DS/L, Fishers
This left-back genius is smooth on her feet, anticipates well, and keeps her upper body quiet on hard-driven shots. The quintessential DS/L, she can score points from behind the baseline and prevent points from scoring as the ’bro for this roster. Always in a high-leverage position, her high school team is also perennially in the top ten in the state.
’24, Maddi Ruscoe, 5-9 OH, Fishers
The second-straight Tiger on this list, Maddi is a six-rotation outside that plays bigger than her 5-9 frame. I like her ball control better than her attack at the moment, but it seems like she always finds the holes in the block and the floor defense. I see her being an O2 at the next level.
’24, Rachel Blackburn, 5-10 OH/RS, Carmel
Rachel has seen all positions, save setter, during her time playing volleyball. With her length and reach, she can play middle. With her transition and approach, she can hit on the pin. Currently projecting to being a right side at the next level, I’m afraid to pigeon-hole her for fear that she’ll learn how to do something else WHILE I’M TYPING THIS ARTICLE. Versatile, yes. I would love to see where she’s placed this weekend.
’24, Sheridan Young Sheridan Young 5'7" | DS/L Center Grove | 2024 State IN , 5-7 DS/L, Center Grove
Luckily, I’ve seen Sheridan in action at CG, since that’s my home base. Her feet get her to where she needs to be, and her upper body is quiet enough to get the ball to target and avoid the overpass. I like her work ethic, her anticipation, and her ability to play multiple positions in the back row. I’m intrigued to see where she ends up this weekend.
