They are a team to definitely keep your eye on heading into the qualifying season. Here are some other takeaways from the weekend in Kansas City.
Stock Risers
KC Power 16-1
They aren’t really stock risers because we knew how good they were from a year ago, triple qualifying. A year later and they are fully healthy and put teams on notice walking away with a 3rd place finish. Mya Bolton Mya Bolton 5'3" | DS/L St. James Academy | 2024 State #134 Nation KS was a defensive standout. Janelle Green Janelle Green 5'9" | S Blue Valley North | 2024 State #68 Nation KS continues to show she’s an elite setter in this class. The fiery Alea Goolsby Alea Goolsby 5'11" | OH St. Thomas Aquinas | 2025 State #36 Nation KS brings the energy. The most impressive thing we saw was the big block put up in the middle and right sides.
PVA 18-1
We didn’t see a third-place finish coming but with the caliber of talent on their team, they can be a dangerous squad this qualifying season. Any team with Ava Martin Ava Martin 5'10" | S Bishop Miege | 2024 State #77 Nation KS is going to be in the mix but Rachel Ziesman Rachel Ziesman 6'1" | MB St. James | 2022 State KS and Alex Dvorak Alex Dvorak 6'1" | MB Park Hill South | 2022 State MO were strong at the net. McKenzie Moburg McKenzie Moburg 5'6" | DS/L Lansing | 2022 State KS is fun to watch in the backcourt.
Mavs KC 17-1
We talked about them a little bit already this year. We also talked about the long-time 18s coaches moving down to take over this team for a couple of years. This team will continue to peak leading up to nationals in a couple of months. Logan Jones Logan Jones 5'10" | S Carl Junction | 2023 State #57 Nation MO is known regionally, she will be a household name nationally when it’s all said and done. Betsy Goodenow is one of our favorite southpaw opposites to watch. She is smooth and has an array of shots.
Didn’t See This Coming
Dynasty 17 Black
They are one of our favorite teams to watch so without seeing footage we don’t have the answers but we surely didn’t see 0-7 even with a loaded field. With players like Cy Rae Campbell Cy Rae Campbell 5'11" | MB Heritage Christian | 2024 State #45 Nation KS and Ashley Mullen Ashley Mullen 5'10" | S Liberty | 2023 State #9 Nation MO , they will bounce back and be in bid contention.
KC Power 15-1
After having seen this team this year, we thought they would finish near the top 20. They had a rough go, only grabbing one win in a tough field.
Rockwood Thunder 16 Elite
There is nothing wrong with a top 20 finish and 3-4 record. We just really like this team and thought they would finish within the top 10. That’s just us having very high expectations for a team we feel is amongst the top in the nation.
