The top eight teams from each age division get split into two pools and go head to head with each other. This tournament helps sort out the regional rankings by making sure they have seen common opponents. There will likely be multiple teams playing in this tournament that will earn a bid to play in the Junior National Tournament. Seeing how most of these teams are the cream of the crop, they contain some of the top players in the state as well. We are taking a look at some 15s players that have taken huge leaps and are major factors to their teams.
Jasmine Liongco, Charge 15UA Setter #6. Small but mighty! She has a heart bigger than most and the effort to back it up. She jump-sets well, helping hold the blockers just a tad longer for her hitters. Her serve puts pressure on opponents via the velocity and the location. Look for her to take an even bigger role this upcoming high school season. She helped lead her team to a 3rd place finish.
Madison Barnes, Premier 15 Diamonds Setter #15. She is a real spark plug for this team. She makes plays all over the court in all sorts of ways, whether that is off the service line, tracking down balls when setting, or getting a timely kill.
Bailey White, Premier 15 Diamonds DS/OH #9. She is a six-rotation player that dug some huge swings and kept balls alive. She can equally impact offense with her great use off of the block. Both she and Madison Barnes helped get this team into the gold bracket and finish 4th overall.
Grace Marshall, UPVBC 15 Open OH #6. She has a great vertical and big approach. She is gaining more and more consistency and control of the ball. This is helping her take a big jump as an offensive leader for her team.
Maddy James, UPVBC 15 Open DS #12. She has great instincts and reads the ball well. You can tell she starts to shift just before the ball is actually contacted. She will continue to develop her skills and be a force to reckon with in the very near future. UPVBC 15 Open finished as runner up.
Emry Brown, UPVBC 15 Pink OH #22. She is a six-rotation player and they are not afraid to set her in the back row. She has a high contact point, as well as a nice snap on the ball. This definitely helps her be effective out of the back row. She has taken huge steps in progress with her approach and this is helping her be a more effective OH. UPVBC 15 Pink finished 5th overall.
Sydney Dunkleberger, Peak 15-1 S #5. She did a great job this past weekend of setting against the flow to her RH. This helped create one-on-one situations for her hitters. She has a solid float serve that can be placed just about anywhere. Peak 15-1 went on to finish 1st, without dropping a set AGAIN.
Shoutout to the top 4 teams:
1st- Peak 15-1
2nd- UPVBC 15 Open
3rd- Charge 15 UA
4th- Premier 15 Diamonds
