18 Open
The good news. The trickle-down will be in heavy effect and one win may be enough for KC Power 18-1 to earn that bid. The final day will open with 4 pools of 3 in the gold rounds. Three of the four pools have a minimum of two teams already having clinched their open bids. One of those three pools has all three teams set to advance to nationals, while one pool has zero teams. Of the twelve teams, five are without bids in the Open Division. Power will be matched in a pool with OT 18 Chad and Rockwood Thunder 18 Elite. They went 2-1 on the first day, dropping an instant classic to FC Elite in three, all sets ending in a two-point differential including the 27-29 first set they dropped. The second day saw them repeat their 2-1 record in pool action to earn a spot in today’s gold pools.
As mentioned previously, Rockwood hopes to “qualify” again this weekend.
18 USA
417 Juniors 18-1 and HPSTL 18 Royal are alive and kicking in the gold bracket entering the final day. They both went undefeated on the opening day, dropping one set between the two teams. They matched those results on the second day with spotless records and look to be one of the final three still standing of the sixteen. They will be operating from separate sides of the bracket, which raises the chances of both earning bids.
18 American
Mavs 816 18-2 is still alive and will start the final day in the Gold Bracket for the lone American bid at stake. They are sitting 5-1 after dropping their first match of the tournament on day 2.
18 Liberty
We shared in our preview both Invasion 18 Black and Mavs 816 18-1 were entering the weekend looking to upgrade their already earned bids. Both teams have positioned themselves to do that on the final day in the Liberty Division. Mavs went 2-1 on the first day but won the tiebreaker to win the pool. They matched their record for a second-place pool finish on the next day. Invasion blazed through the opening day before finding themselves in that anxiety-filled three teams with matching records twilight zone. They won the right match at the right time to seize the runner-up spot to stay in contention heading into Sunday.
