It’s heating up outside and it’s getting even hotter in the gym. The 16 Open is a hotly anticipated division full of the big guns showing up and showing out.
It’ll be a brawl and here are some of the top fighters coming into MEQs.
Catherine Flaharty (2024) | 6’1 OH | L2
One of the leading attacking weapons for this squad, Catherine Flaharty is L2’s big gun on the left side. Flaharty has a high reach with great shot selection. When behind the service line, Flaharty is known to make some noise with a huge hybrid serve.

Mallory Bohl (2024) | 6’3 MB | Legacy
Shutting it down in the middle, Mallory Bohl is one of the top blockers in the 2024 class. Bohl moves well laterally and can give attackers lots of fits. Bohl also proves to be a versatile attacker, running up the middle, on the slide, or attacking on the right pin at times.
Lea Gage (2024) | 5’11 S | L2
Pacing a lethal and effective offense for L2 is Lea Gage. Gage is having a breakout season at the setter position and growing rapidly as the season progresses. She has a great touch to the ball and is developing a nice dump on two that keeps opponents honest.

Alec Rothe (2024) | 6’2 MB/OPP | Elite VBTC
You can’t go wrong plugging this player in anywhere along the net, but Alec Rothe has really been coming into her own on the right pin this season for Elite VBTC. She’s a shut down blocker for the biggest of left side attackers and Rothe boasts a heavy arm in transition.
Taylor Parks (2024) | 5’11 S | OTVA
This is a team you don’t want to see across the net with Taylor Parks setting. Parks is a very athletic player that runs a great tempo all around the net. She’s can be quite deceptive with her ball and loves to go against the grain of the game to great success.
Bella Lee (2024) | 5’5 L | OTVA
A setter and her offense can only go as far as her defense goes. With Bella Lee leading the charge, OTVA is miles ahead of the rest. Lee can read the opponents offense at a high level and puts her teams in constant position to score in transition.
Hailey Green (2024) | 5’1 L | Michigan Elite
If we are speaking of talented ‘bros in the 16 Open, you can’t not mention Hailey Green. A Michigan Elite squad riddled with injury this season, Green has been the glue keeping it all together. A solid receiver and great defender, Green has great mechanics and performs at a high level under pressure.
Tatum Grimes (2024) | 6’2 MB | KC Power
Once she rotates to the front row, its a block party! Tatum Grimes is shaping up to be one of the top blockers in this 2024 class and for good reason. A springy player with great reach and press over the net, she can cut off any avenue for attackers to sneak the ball through.
Lilly Wagner (2024) | 6’0 S | MKE Sting
One of the most exciting players in the Open is Lilly Wagner out of MKE Sting. At the setter position, Wagner plays the game at a highly athletic level with an absurd IQ. No ball is ever too tight or too far off, Wagner is going to run her offense and run it with speed and precision.
Morgan Gaerte (2024) | 6’4 OH | Team Pineapple
One of the biggest pin attackers you’ll see in Indianapolis, Morgan Gaerte stands tall at 6’4 and can tower over opposing defenses. With a big arm and a great shot range, Gaerte isn’t just the cannon on the left, she can pass and defend at a high level.
