Continue ReadingChampionship/Bid Sunday came and went with many teams either earning bids for the first time, while others upgraded previously earned bids to finalize some plans for April and the summer of 2022. The Mideast Qualifier saw some intense action on the final day. Here are the teams within our coverage zone to make it happen on the last day of the competition.
15 Open
We haven’t dived much into the 15s this season and we are still learning many of the teams and faces besides the players who had breakout high school seasons. One team we did know about was Dynasty 15 Black who as 14s showed they were one of the elite programs in the country. They continued that reputation by winning the 15 Open division, dropping one match along the way. Coach Brian Tate has a team with rising talent such as Emma Christian Emma Christian 5'8" | S Liberty North | 2025 State MO and Lauren Lopez Lauren Lopez 5'10" | OH Bishop Miege | 2025 State KS to highlight a couple.
16 Open
In boxing, they use the term “Pound for Pound Champion” to highlight the top fighters regardless of weight class. Dynasty 16 Black has to be in the conversation for one of the top teams in the country “Age for Age”. What a dominant weekend they had bullying their way through the 16 Open Division. We don’t want to highlight one player as they were all on throughout the tournament.
They weren’t alone in grabbing an Open Bid, though Dynasty has now double qualified in the young season. KC Power 16-1 with their third-place finish put themselves in a position to earn their open bid, going 7-2 over the weekend. Besides a three-set loss to 1st Alliance and running into the buzz saw we called 16 Black, they also had a pretty strong showing. Like with Dynasty , too many players to name in regards to key plays and performances.
16 Liberty
PVA 16 Elite made it happen in the Liberty Division with a 7-3 record, good enough for a runner-up finish. They ran off four key.wins in a row before dropping their final match.
18 Open
We attempted to do our due diligence but it appears KC Power 18-1 were able to earn their bid after a trickle-down with five teams finishing ahead of them with Open bids already in hand. We mentioned after two days that one win may be all that is needed and it appears that to be the case after a 5-3 weekend.
18 USA
With Epic United winning the division and already owning a USA Bid, it looks like 417 Juniors 18-1 may have technically “double qualified” in the USA division after a 4th place finish. They put together an 8-2 weekend behind the play of Emma Conrad Emma Conrad 5'0" | DS/L Nixa | 2023 State MO and Tevi Gurley Tevi Gurley 5'10" | OH El Dorado Springs | 2022 State MO .
18 Liberty
Mavs 816 18-1 did a little upgrading this weekend also moving up to the Liberty Division after owning a Freedom Bid. They looked solid en route to a 6-3 record in tournament play.
