With April approaching, here are some other teams who had good showings and we should keep an eye on them in the coming weeks at qualifier tournaments.
15 Open
Mavs KC 15-1 went 6-2 last weekend, good for a 5th place finish. They were perfect through their first five matches before dropping consecutive matches. They were able to bounce back by winning their final match of the tournament. With a regional National bid already in hand, they will continue their goal of capturing an Open bid. Mavs KC 16-1 also finished tied for 5th, after compiling a 5-3 record. Two of those defeats came to the hands of Missouri/Kansas teams in HPSTL 16 Royal and Dynasty 16 Black. They also hold a National bid with both Dynasty and KC Power earning Open bids in qualifier play. Sophia Bond Sophia Bond 5'7" | DS/L St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State KS and Sara Allmon Sara Allmon 6'0" | OH Olathe South | 2024 KS will lead this talented bunch in the process.
16 Liberty
In the LIberty Division, Rockwood Thunder 16 White were on the doorstep of taking home a bid after a 7th place finish last weekend. They dropped their opening match in a tough three-set contest then reeled off six straight before losing in the gold bracket.
16 American
The American Division has one bid to hand out and it typically falls to the winner, since previous American bid owners typically move up to a different division. HPSTL 16 Orange gave it a run but fell short despite an 8-2 record on the weekend. They finished just outside the top spot with a 3rd place showing.
17 Liberty
A couple of St. Louis area teams had good runs in the Liberty Division of MEQ. H2 STL 17 Under Amour ended their weekend tied for 5th going 6-2. They started the tournament with five straight wins before finishing 1-2. Right behind them in 7th was Rockwood Thunder 17 Black. They were perfect going into the final day before suffering their sole loss in the gold bracket and finishing 7-1.
