I was able to see Rockwood Thunder 17 Black play and came away impressed. The talent on this team is impressive but still a little raw. Here’s six players on the team that impressed me with all the potential they could bring to the next level.
Mia Maddock Mia Maddock 6'2" | RS Visitation Academy | 2023 State MO -2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Visitation Academy – 6’2″ – MB
I’ve watched her play in both high school and club, and she’s one to keep an eye on. She is long and has a whip for an arm swing, and in my opinion, she would be a great right-side hitter at the next level. At 6’2, she would provide a solid block, and her arms swing seems more natural for a right side than a middle.
Madi Hartman – 2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Lafayette – 5’8 – Libero
Hartman comes from tradition-rich Lafayette high school, and she’s a hard-nosed defender that loves to get after it. If it’s wearing the libero jersey or coming in as a DS, her level of gritty, nasty defense doesn’t change.
– 2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Hazelwood Central – 6’2″ -MB
Club season is where Braelynn makes the most noise. Still a little raw, but she’s making huge strides in her game daily. The 6’2 middle blocker for her high school and club team has the lateral quickness to close to the pins, but her quickness getting off the floor and her vertical is impressive.
Riley Duvall Riley Duvall 5'8" | RS Jefferson | 2023 State MO – 2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Jefferson -5’8″ RS
Part of a talented junior class for Jefferson this year and helped the Bluejays to a 3rd place finish in Class 2. She moves on to play for another talented team at Rockwood Thunder . She’s surrounded by talent and might be overshadowed at times, but Riley is a role player that provides her team with steady play and a solid line shot. At only 5’8, she has a solid vertical and a high volleyball IQ.
Ella Nikodym Ella Nikodym 5'10" | S Duchesne | 2023 State MO – 2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Duchesne -5’10” – Setter
You can tell she’s a leader when watching her run the offense. Ella has excellent hands, height, vertical, and a high volleyball IQ. She’ll be one to keep an eye on next year as she keeps getting better.
Sophia Shaver– 2023 – Rockwood Thunder 17 Black/Westminster Christian – 5’8″ – Setter
Another setter for Rockwood 17 Black comes from Class 4 State Champions Westminster Christian. A clever setter who does a tremendous job of feeding the hot hitters and plays solid defense. Shaver helped her high school team win a state title by running part of the 6-2 offense is doing the same for Rockwood 17 Black.
