Naija Gadis Naija Gadis 5'8" | S Brebeuf | 2023 State #196 Nation IN , 5-8, Brebeuf, Munciana
With a state championship title already on her mantle, Naija is, far and away, the most athletic setter on this list. Her ability to turn out-of-system passes into in-system kills is second to none here, and is receiving top-notch training from Munciana. She can get to tight passes that some taller than she cannot, and her high and fast hands make her very deceptive. She has next-level written all over her, and it’s only a matter of time before she receives that commitment from (what will be) a very lucky college.
Avery Hales Avery Hales 5'11" | S Warsaw | 2023 State IN , 5-10, Warsaw, Dunes
With her strength, skill and a little bit of attitude comes an exceptional option for a 5-1 setter at the next level. She can defend, run a fast offense and lead with the best of them. She also is more offensive than your average setter from Indiana, which is a fun trait I always coveted when I coached. She’s been running her show for a few years now, and her maturity and upper-level experience makes it completely apparent to all who watch.
Desha Van Veldhuizen Desha Van Veldhuizen 5'10" | S Park Tudor | 2023 State IN , 5-10, Park Tudor, Munciana Indy
A satellite club associated with Munciana, Desha has the size, strength and leadership abilities to be able to run a 5-1 offense at the next level. Her hands are what stand out to me; always high, always accurate, and always ready to get any ball that comes her way. Her arm length has her block bigger than her 5-10 frame suggests, which smaller schools should take advantage of sooner, rather than later.
Monica Jones Monica Jones 5'8" | S Roncalli | 2023 State IN , 5-8, Roncalli, Rev
Strong hands, fast feet and an excellent all-around game describe most setters that come out of Roncalli, and Monica is no exception. She can easily run a 6-2 at a larger school or be part of a 5-1 offense that can go fast and beat teams with speed. Miss Jones also plays above-average defense for her position, as many setters in Indiana choose to forget the importance of honing all aspects of the game. Unassuming and dependable, Monica should be a pleasant surprise for any program recruiting her.
Natalie Blaufuss Natalie Blaufuss 5'8" | S Homestead | 2023 State IN , 5-8, Homestead, Empowered
From the Fort Wayne area comes a smaller but very effective setter that is more deceptive than most. She uses all of her 5-8 frame to get to every ball, and her reaction time on defense is exceptional. It comes as no surprise to this author that she (like most setters from the FW area) is athletic, a gym rat, and can do whatever is asked of her on a day-in, day-out basis. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her work next fall.
