It’s a big opportunity for players to really draw attention for hopes of playing at the next level.
In this class, there are a number of talented players that could be diamonds in the rough. Here’s five that may need a little more attention in the months to come.
Katie Berry, OH/DS South Lyon East/L2
Berry is able to play a lot of different locations on the court. Her footwork and athleticism allows her to finish at a high rate at the pins or in the middle, but she also has the technical skills to play in the back row. Berry puts a great swing on the ball and delivers a powerful attack. She’s got a very high ceiling to work with these next few years.
Hanna Bredeweg, S Grand Rapids Christian/MVA
Bredeweg is set to be another elite setter out of the GRC program. With great coaching from her staffs and her teammates, Bredeweg is adding a lot of dimensions to her game. She can play with a lot of speed and is improving her set locations with each passing week. With more opportunities to be spotlighted in the years ahead, Bredeweg should find herself getting a lot of attention from colleges.
Kate Maley Kate Maley 6'1" | RS Skyline | 2024 State #153 Nation MI , MH/RS Skyline/Legacy
Maley made a lot of progress in the last year and it looks like that trend is set to continue for the year to come. She’s very versatile at the net and really connects with the ball at the right moment. She makes her swing look effortless, yet terminates at a high rate. Maley is raising her game with each big tournament and is sure to be making her way up the rankings.
Greta McKee Greta McKee 5'5" | DS/L Northville | 2024 State MI , DS/L Northville/L2
McKee is part of a deep crop of defensive talent at Northville, but she is sure to be another talented DS option to come out of that program. She’s very agile and quick to get to her spots. McKee doesn’t get lost in a big match either. She’s got plenty of experience in pressure points and has exceeded in those moments.
McKenzie Swanson, MH, Marian
A multi-sport talent, Swanson is gifted with 6’3” size and a big wingspan. The 2022 prep season is a chance for her to really boost her stock. With the Mustangs so strong in the middle last year, she didn’t get many opportunities to shine. However, that will be different next fall. Swanson has the court IQ to be an elite blocker and finisher. Keep an eye on her for sure.
