17 Open
We are the champions, my friends! Dynasty 17 Black, a team we’ve talked about a couple of times this year is continuing to peak as they took home the Open title after an 8-2 weekend. Behind the setting of Ashley Mullen Ashley Mullen 5'10" | S Liberty | 2023 State #9 Nation MO , the arms of CyRae Campbell and Chapel Dobbs Chapel Dobbs 6'1" | OH Helias | 2023 State MO , and the defense of Heidi Devers Heidi Devers 5'4" | DS/L St. James | 2024 State KS , the finished top dogs. They went 2-1 over the first two days of pool play to stay in the gold pools and finished the deal racking off four straight wins.
PVA 17 Elite also made the trek to Florida and finished tied for 7th place. They also went 2-1 in the first two days. They also split in Gold Pool action before facing 1st Alliance in a bid match. They pulled off the 1st set 27-25 before dropping the final two and just missing a bid. Tori Gelles, Charley Thomas Charley Thomas 5'9" | DS/L Blue Valley | 2023 State KS , and Victoria Vilott are all players who will keep leading the way to an open bid.
17 USA
A 4th place finish was the result for Rockwood Thunder 17 Navy after a 7-3 weekend in the Sunshine State. I’m unable to verify if it was good enough for a trickle down or not but the team played extremely well all weekend. Mavs KC 17-2 also had a good showing after tying for 9th place. Their 4-3 record included 2-1 records on the first two days of competition.
16 Open
Pohaku, the second-year club out of Kansas City had a good showing in the open division. A strong day one kept them in bid contention, going undefeated with only a couple of tight sets. The second day saw them win their first match in a marathon fashion. It then saw them drop their second. match in marathon fashion before dropping their final match to be sent to the silver bracket. They would end their weekend with an 11th place showing. Mackenzie Miller and Ava Spachek Ava Spachek 5'11" | OH St. James Academy | 2024 State KS are a couple of names to watch in their next tournament.
16 American
Rockwood Thunder 16 Carolina could taste the American bid after blistering through the first two days of competition, going 7-0. The tough thing about the American Division is you typically have to be perfect through the whole tournament to earn the bid. Unfortunately, they ran into the eventual champions TGV Adidas 16 team in the first round of bracket play to finish 7-1 and tied for 9th. Finishing tied for 19th was Mavs 816 16-1. They had a strong 8-2 record. They were also perfect after two rounds of pool play before dropping a crossover match. They took care of business in their first two Silver Bracket matches, before losing to Veva 16 Black.
15 USA
In the USA division, Rockwood Thunder 15 Navy went 2-1 on day 1 to keep their bid dreams alive but a tough day 2 knocked them out of contention. They did bounce back on the final day to get one win before dropping their last match. They finished tied for 33rd.
15 Liberty
Rockwood Thunder 15 White had a good showing, finishing the tournament in 9th place. They compiled a 5-3 record along the way, including three straight to end the classic.
15 American
Over in the American division, another Rockwood club found success in 15 Carolina. A 7-2 record enabled them to finish tied for 5th place. They were hot out the gate winning their first five matches. Rockwood Thunder 15 Blue went 4-4 on the weekend, finishing with 10 set wins to 8 losses. They won 3 of their last 4 matches to finish tied for 85th.
