That’s what was on the line for teams deciding to venture to Reno, Nevada for the last qualifier of the season with the Far Western. There were some teams who decided to head west and give it a shot. Here are how some of the teams ended their chase for bids.
16 American
We say over and over again, that it has to be a special weekend to leave as the American Division championship. You can’t have any slip-ups. Well, Mavs 816 16-1 said, “there’s nothing to it but to do it”! They would go 10-0, dropping only one set on the way to a championship and bid. It has been a season of injuries and setbacks but when it mattered, they pulled together to play their best volleyball of the season. Their biggest challenge besides the three-setter on day 1 was the championship match. They won in straight sets; -23, -23 over EIVC 16 Andri.
16 USA
PVA 16 Elite made the run of upgrading their bid but finished 9th in the attempt. Things looked promising going 6-0 over the first two days but dropped their opening match in the gold bracket. Dynasty 16 Gray was in the same division and ended up 14th.
17 American
Dynasty 17 Blue tried to find the same success as Mavs 816 in the 17 American Division and they got off to a great start. The crazy thing is they only had 6 players on this journey out west. They were undefeated after day one and started day two with a three-set thriller to keep their dreams alive. In the championship match they won a nail biter in extra points in set 1 before struggling thru with the second set. The championship set was a back and forth battle before Colorado Springs Altitutde CSA 17 Navy pulled away for a 15-12 victory.
Invasion 17 Gray also made the trip to Nevada and finished 19th.
Going back a week…
15 American
A champion returned to Missouri in the 15 American in Mizuno Club North 15 Steve. A perfect 10-0 record got it done with their only set dropped coming in the title match. They went down a tough first set before grinding out the second and taking control in the thrid, running away 15-8.
