Pursuit 16 National: American
Pursuit ended their tournament run tied for 39th with a 3-6 record over four days. They opened play with a devasting 18-16 third-set defeat and ended pool play 3-4. They dropped their crossover match then went down to the next team we’ll talk about, Apex 16-1 in Flight 4 action.
Apex 16-1: American
Apex had a similar run as Pursuit , ending in Flight 4 play. Their win over Pursuit allowed them to finish in 37th place after a defeat in the next match. One difference was Apex went 4-3 in pool play but ended up going down in their crossover contest. They would go on to win both matches in Flight bracket play to finish 6-4. Mollie Thomas Mollie Thomas 6'0" | S Marshfield | 2024 State MO , Bella Faria Bella Faria 5'10" | OH Kickapoo | 2024 State MO , and Rilynn Finley Rilynn Finley 6'0" | MB Republic | 2024 State MO are a few names to keep an eye on this fall at their respective high schools.
Mizuno Club North 16-1: American
The highest finish for Missouri teams in this division went to Mizuno Club North who grabbed 7 wins on their way to a 13th place finish. They sprinted out the gate claiming their first four matches before losing to TGV 16 Adidas in two closely contested sets, including a 31-29 marathon. They bounced back to get their next two matches. The second place pool finish was the difference in playing one versus two matches in the crossover round. They took down Madtown before losing to ECJ. Their final match in the tournament was a loss at the hands of Texas Performance in the Silver bracket.
Mavs 816 16-1: American
Mavs 816 was the other team tied for 39th with Pursuit and had a matching 3-6 record during their time in Indiana. They encountered four three-set dogfights in their nine matches. They earned all of their victories in pool play before losing in both their crossover matches and flight play.
417 Juniors 16-1: Freedom
Hardware returned to Springfield by the way of 417 Juniors and their third-place showing in the Freedom division. A 4 win streak is how they started off the championships before dropping the final pool match in three. They split their next pool draws but got the all-important crossover win over Milwaukee String 16 White to get them in the gold bracket. Once there they beat Albuquerque in three to get to the final four. They took on Katy United, who squeaked out the first set 26-24. Juniors bounced back to claim the second set in a convincing manner -17. With both teams grabbing a set, the final went back and forth before Katy pulled away late to get a 15-11 win and send them to the title match. A host of players had a good week including Collette Buschhorn Collette Buschhorn 5'8" | S Central | 2024 State MO and Milania Sylvester were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Rockwood Thunder 16 White: Freedom
Rockwood battled their way to a 4-6 record at GJNC. They went 2-3 in pool play which delegated them to the second grouping of teams after the first two days. They were able to grab another win on day three to make their way to Flight 4 where they would go 1-1.
