Continue ReadingUSA Volleyball held it’s Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis at the Indiana Convention Center on June 26-30th. This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This series of articles is going to cover those athletes that stood out to me during the 10 days that I was covering the tournament.
This first article is devoted to the 2025 and 2026 classes. I will be discussing quite a few of the wonderful athletes who wowed the crowd many times. Although I could easily write an article on every player, this will be about those who caught my eye for various reasons. Without further ado, let’s meet a few of them.
Layli Ostovar [2026] 5-11 Outside (HS: Mater Dei/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Layli is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2026 Prep Dig California State Rankings, but that is only because we have not completed them yet. She plays for Mater Dei High School and plays club for Mizuno Long Beach. This young lady is the real deal when it comes to future stars. Everything about her game says “I got next”. She is a true six rotation pin attacker who is what we call a game changer. She will make any team she is on that much better. It is one thing to play up an age group. That in itself is something to be admired. She is starring at this age group and doing so against the best of the best. She gets off of the ground super fast like a ball bouncing on the ground. Her arm swing is lightning quick and she has multiple shots she can score with. What stood out to me the most is her determination. Even when her team got down in the score, she never wavered and stayed aggressive on both the defensive and offensive end. I will be covering her closely throughout her career. Stay tuned for more on Miss Ostovar.
Paulina Baillie Paulina Baillie 5'6" | DS/L Sage Creek | 2024 State CA [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Sage Creek/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Paulina is currently on the watch list in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Sage Creek High School and also club for the amazing Coast program. I am not sure if there is a better libero in the state other than miss Paulina. She has a deadly jump top-spin serve that rattled off points for Coast at times. She is a true assassin from the end line. But what makes her special is her ball control in both serve receive and defense. Once we get the national rankings out for this age group, I will be voting for Paulina to be considered for sure. She is that special in the position. This kiddo thrives in big games and would be one of my first picks in a pick up game for sure. If you have not seen Miss Baillie play, I suggest you write her name down and put it on your short list because she is special. What I really loved is how it seemed like she loved when the going got tough. Some players get down when their team is faced with a lot of adversity. Paulina got better and played with much more determination almost as if it fed into her competitiveness.
Kaci Demaria Kaci Demaria 6'3" | OH Palos Verdes | 2025 State #7 Nation CA [2025] 6-2 Outside (HS: Palos Verdes/Club: Surfside Volleyball/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kaci is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is on my watchlist and should have no problem making the list when I update it. She plays for Palos Verdes High School and plays club for Surfside Volleyball. When we talk about game changing players, Kaci definitely comes to mind. She is a sure fire kill waiting to happen on the left side. She is for sure the star amongst stars for any team she plays on. Miss Demaria is no stranger to accolades as she has already burst onto the scene as a standout freshman for her high school. When I watched her play at nationals, I was blown away by her abilities. She is their go to point scorer whether she is in the front row or the back row. The scary part is that she is really barely getting started and will only get better from here. That spells a lot of trouble for her opponents. I will be following her journey very closely.
We will be continuing with more players in each position in the next few articles that stood out to me while I covered nationals.
