This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This series of articles is going to cover those athletes that stood out to me during the 10 days that I was covering the tournament.
This next article is devoted to the 2025 class. I will be discussing quite a few of the wonderful athletes who wowed the crowd many times. Although I could easily write an article on every player, this will be about those who caught my eye for various reasons. Without further ado, let’s meet a few of them.
Ruby Hill [2025] 6-3 Setter/Right Side (HS: Jserra Catholic/Club: Tstreet Volleyball/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ruby is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is on my watchlist and should have no problem making the list when I update it. She plays for Jserra Catholic High School and plays club for Tstreet Volleyball. You cannot teach height and every coach would drool over the thought of having a six foot three setter who can also swing for the fences as an attacker. What can’t this young lady do on a volleyball court? I am not sure there is an answer as I watched her do it all for her squad at nationals. She can play solid defense out of right back, she can score as an elite attacker from the right pin, she can deliver dimes as a setter, and she is a shut down blocker against opposing left side hitters. Ruby will be one to watch for sure as she continues to get better at each skill, but is already at the top of the class as a prospect now. If you do not know her name by now, you will soon enough.
Olivia Foye [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Huntington Beach/Club: Surfside Volleyball/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Olivia is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2025 Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for Huntington Beach High School and plays club for Surfside volleyball. I loved watching this young lady help lead her team against solid open level competition. If I had to pick vocal leaders on the court, she would be one of the top picks. She plays the game the way it was meant to be played…hard. I loved how it seemed as if she was not afraid of anyone or any big moment. Miss Foye was an all around six rotation player who excelled in the back row defensively and in serve receive. Her leadership on the court with her teammates was unmatched in my opinion. Some players talk a big game but cannot back it up, but not Olivia. Her ball control was on an elite level in the match that I watched. She deserves a few looks as a prospect for sure just on how much she would give to her teammates and coaching staff with leadership.
Ava Poinsett [2025] 5-11 Outside (HS: Parker/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ava is currently listed on our prospect watchlist in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Francis Parker High School and for Coast Volleyball. She is one of the best true six rotation outsides in the state in her grad class and backs it up match after match. I watched this young lady take over matches and be the go to hitter both in the front row and back row. She never changes her attitude on the court and is always focused on the next point like a true warrior should be. Her gift is located in her golden right arm, which cuts through a defense like a knife through butter. I love how she is able to score from any location on the court. A lot of players need a perfect set in order to take a good approach and deliver, but Ava can jump and swing from any spot on the court no matter if she takes a full approach or not. Her ball control is also elite and she can help a squad in every aspect of the game.
We will be continuing with more players in each position in the next few articles that stood out to me while I covered nationals.
