This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This series of articles is going to cover those athletes that stood out to me during the 10 days that I was covering the tournament.
This article is devoted to the 2025 class. I will be discussing quite a few of the wonderful athletes who wowed the crowd many times. Although I could easily write an article on every player, this will be about those who caught my eye for various reasons. Without further ado, let’s meet a few of them.
Sydney Raszewski [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Mater Dei/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Sydney is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is on my watchlist and should have no problem making the list when I update it. She plays for Mater Dei High School and plays club for Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball. She is the type of libero every coach wants. I love how serious she is on the court and has her eyes laser focused on the opponent as she sets up in the correct position to play the ball. Her anticipation of the next play is on another level as if she sees it happening before it actually happens. She has amazing fast twitch muscles and uses those on defense a lot. There are not very many balls that fall near her zone when she is in left back. Her communication is on point with her teammates prior to the serve and she shows some great leadership in the position. I would classify her serve receive skills as elite in the two matches I watched at nationals.
Lucy Chertock [2025] 6-1 Outside (HS: San Ramon Valley/Club: Norcal Volleyball/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Lucy is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2025 Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for San Ramon Valley High School and plays club for Norcal volleyball. Miss Chertock was in kill mode when I watched her team at nationals. She was on fire from all over the court scoring for her squad out of the left side. She stayed very aggressive on offense even during out of system plays which showcased her dynamic capabilities. She is a true six rotation left side who has open level ball control out of serve receive. Her size, frame, and skill-set in the position will keep her in college coaches eyes for a long time. She has adequate power in her arm and possesses the ability to move the ball around and score in a variety of ways. We will keep our eye on Lucy during her growth in the position so stay tuned for more articles to come.
Jolyna Salas [2025] 5-7 Setter (HS: Classical Academy/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jolyna is currently on the watch list in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Classical Academy High School and also club for the awesome Coast volleyball program. Coast trusts her to run a 5-1 and when she rotates to the front row, they actually gain a lot rather than losing a hitter. She is able to jump extremely well and save a lot of balls before they go over the net. Her location is sniper accurate with every set and she has fantastic rapport with her middles. They run a very fast middle set and connect well to score often. This young lady was scared of no one and jumped to hit and block when she was in the front row. In the back row she displayed libero like defense out of right back and was super fast tracking down balls out of transition. I loved what I saw out of Miss Salas and she could easily make the rankings when we finalize them.
We will be continuing with more players in each position in the next few articles that stood out to me while I covered nationals.
