Continue ReadingIt is a pretty common chant you here in the high school volleyball gyms after a frosh is responsible for a kill or an ace. It is quite rare for a frosh to make the varsity. Even rarer when she makes a good play that results in a point.
Below are some frosh that have made varsity rosters. This is an opportunity to begin building our 2026 list. Not all the high schools have completed their rosters, or at least published them on their website, so this is not a complete list. Plus, I did not get an opportunity to watch a lot of 14’s at club, so unless I coached them at an earlier age there is not much information I have about these girls.
Below are ten frosh to watch. More will come when private schools have completed their tryouts and other public schools have published their rosters.
Hailey Park (S) and Claire Mo (S) (Langley) – Last year in travel ball Claire played a year up, setting for Paramount 15 and leading them to a USAV Nationals appearance in Indianapolis. Hailey played for VAVA 14. Both played for Virginia Juniors when they were 13, but Claire did most of the setting. Langley already has the 6’1″ junior Chloe Hokenson Chloe Hokenson 6'1" | S Langley | 2024 State VA to set but adding another setter would allow her to hit in the front row. Claire could be the second setter, operating out of the back row. Hailey has a number of skill sets that could be used in the game, such as her back row setting, serving and defensive specialist. Neither Claire or Hailey reach 6 feet in height, but at about 5’7″ Claire is the taller of the two. Both may have grown since I last saw them.
Yana Jensen (OH) and Morgan Williams (OH) (Lake Braddock) – Yana played for Virginia Juniors, listed as an opposite and right side. Morgan already stands 6’2″ and is listed as a middle blocker/outside. She played for Virginia Elite and her block jump is listed at 9’5″. There are two other seniors listed as outsides on the roster so there could be a lot of playing time for one or both. Last year was a struggle for Lake Braddock but these two frosh could bring some light to the program.
Soleil Rancourt (right side) and Sydney Bennett (Middle) (Patriot)- Soleil played for Metro 14 travel last year. The team qualified for USAV Nationals in Indianapolis and finished in 21st place. Sydney played middle for American. Patriot has a roster filled with six seniors, so it is a veteran group. Middles are always in short supply.
Tehillah Garrison (OH) (Colgan) – Tehillah played for Metro 14, which was ranked as the top team in the Chesapeake Region. They finished 16-0 and qualified for the Nationals in Indianapolis. She was a teammate of Soleil listed above. Tehillah was one of four left side hitters, though with a size of 5’8″she is a little on the smaller size for an outside hitter.
Maddy Klees (S/Opposite) (Independence) – Maddy stands 5’11 and is listed as a middle blocker for her travel team Virginia Juniors. On the Independence roster she is listed as a setter/opposite. The Virginia Jrs. team qualified for USAV Nationals in the USA Division, but struggled early, losing their first six games before winning two of their last three. Maddy is one of three setters listed on the high school roster, so she should see some playing time.
Giselle Norris (Libero) (Millbrook High) – Down in Winchester Giselle is the only frosh listed on the Millbrook High roster. She is the third representative of the 14 Metro travel team that has made their high school varsity team as a frosh. Watching her video she moves quickly in the back row and could be a starting libero for many of the Northern Virginia high school teams.
Ana Sofia Zanellato (Setter/Right Side) (Madison) – She was a setter for the Virginia Juniors 14 team. Ana will play right side/setter for the Madison Warhawks, the lone freshman on that team. The Warhawks have two setters on their roster so Ana can be used patiently against those teams in which she can achieve success.
