But that was club, and now we are onto a whole new beast – high school season. And Prep Dig is going to be breaking down all of the top returners to the 2022 HS season. On to the next round of top returners, let’s break down the setters.
Ava Sarafa Ava Sarafa 6'0" | S Marian | 2023 State #14 Nation MI – 6’0 S – Marian
A returning two-time state champion and touted as one of the top setters in the country, Ava Sarafa Ava Sarafa 6'0" | S Marian | 2023 State #14 Nation MI will be on her farewell tour this season. Sarafa loses a huge artillery of weapons from last season and will really be put to the test on the hunt for another title. If anyone can do it, it is this future Wildcat.
Zoey Dood Zoey Dood 6'2" | S Grandville | 2024 State #131 Nation MI – 6’2 S – Grandville
One of the hottest names in the 2024 class, Zoey Dood Zoey Dood 6'2" | S Grandville | 2024 State #131 Nation MI is just simply one of a kind. At 6’2, she’s an imposing threat at the net with her block and a wicked swing on two. Dood is no stranger to performing at the highest of levels and has been the sole heartbeat to Grandville for a few seasons now.
Adrienne Greschaw Adrienne Greschaw 5'9" | S North Branch | 2024 State MI – 5’8 S – North Branch
With Adrienne Greschaw Adrienne Greschaw 5'9" | S North Branch | 2024 State MI running the show, the legendary North Branch Broncos made their epic return to Kellogg Arena after a dry spell in 2021. With an entire starting line up around her returning, Greschaw and company should be running tables around their competition this season.
Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI – 6’2 S – Mercy
I would not be surprised to see 2022 be the season of the Mercy Marlins. Like Dood, Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI is another 6’2 left handed setter that can run the offense like a pro and throw down a big one on two. Flynn will have a lot of weapons to her disposal this season that could make big waves in the Catholic League and the tournament.
Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI – 5’9 S – Northville
Last year she was an outside hitter for the Mercy Marlins, now Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI will be playing for the Northville Mustangs in her natural position. The Stangs are now in one of the best positions they have ever been to make a big run in the tournament. Craggs just recently garnered All-American honors with Michigan Elite Volleyball and knows how to run a tight ship.
Sophie Crawford Sophie Crawford 6'1" | S Gull Lake | 2024 State MI – 6’1 S – Gull Lake
The southwest of the state has gone a little under the radar recently but with as talented as a setter as Sophie Crawford Sophie Crawford 6'1" | S Gull Lake | 2024 State MI around, this spot could make a big comeback. Crawford poses herself as a pretty big block, standing tall at 6’1. Her high contact with the ball and athleticism can create a lot of problems for opposing defenders to keep track of her offense.
Erin Madigan Erin Madigan 6'2" | S Dakota | 2023 State MI – 6’2 S – Dakota
Speaking of big, dynamic setters, Erin Madigan Erin Madigan 6'2" | S Dakota | 2023 State MI checks about all of the boxes. Last season was a breakthrough for the 6’2 setter, seeing herself lead the Dakota Cougars to a semifinal game. In her junior campaign, Madigan saw her game grow leaps and bounds to be considered one of the best in the state. With about her entire squad returning alongside her, the Cougars are easily a favorite to return to Battle Creek.
Megan Grose Megan Grose 5'10" | S St. Catherine | 2023 State MI – 5’9 S – St. Catherine of Siena Academy
Talk about breakout seasons, Megan Grose Megan Grose 5'10" | S St. Catherine | 2023 State MI is on the coattails of her own with L2 Volleyball this past spring. One of the key players in the clubs inaugural season, Grose shined throughout the season as a setter and hitter combo. She could easily do some double dipping during the high school season as well.
Margo Sudzina Margo Sudzina 5'6" | S Notre Dame Prep | 2023 State MI – 5’8 S – Notre Dame Prep
Like Marian in Division 1, Notre Dame Prep is the returning Division 2 champs but loses a lot of key pieces to their winning puzzle. But they don’t return empty handed as they return Margo Sudzina Margo Sudzina 5'6" | S Notre Dame Prep | 2023 State MI who will continue running the offense for the Irish. Slightly undersized, Sudzina makes up with her athleticism and the speed she runs her offense.
Taylor Smith Taylor Smith 6'1" | S Pewamo Westphalia | 2024 State MI – 6’1 S – Pewamo Westphalia
This may be one of the biggest group of setters we’ve ever seen in the Mitten state. The sixth player on the list to stand over 6’0 tall, Taylor Smith Taylor Smith 6'1" | S Pewamo Westphalia | 2024 State MI brings a lot to the table for Pewamo Westphalia. Last year saw Smith lead the Pirates to the Division 3 quarterfinals before falling to the eventually runner-ups in SMCC. This could be the very year the Eagles make it to Kellogg Arena.
