1. St. Thomas Aquinas (16-2)
The Saints remain in the top spot after a solid week. They did go down once to a Washburn Rural team who if we included them this year like we did last year, could very well be jockeying for the top spot. In a four-day span, they beat #2 St James, #3 Liberty, #5 Blue Valley North, and #6 Liberty North. They did the work to hold the ranking for another week.
2. St. James (14-1)
St. James tasted defeat for the first time this season with a loss to #1 Aquinas. They did grab a win over #5 Blue Valley North and that win was enough for us to hold them steady in the second position.
3. Liberty (20-1)
Sweeps of Lee’s Summit North and Blue Springs keep the Blue Jays in the third spot. A big showdown looms with #6 and rival Liberty North on Tuesday evening.
4. Blue Valley West (14-6)
After a strong showing at the Mo/Kan Challenge, the Jaguars didn’t take time off heading to the Olathe East tournament and leaving tournament champions. They will get to see #1 Aquinas and a competitive Bishop Miege team.
5. Blue Valley North (11-5)
The Mustangs were dropped last week twice but to the #1 and #2 teams in the city. We won’t punish them for that.
6. Liberty North (13-2)
The Eagles put the hurt on Platte County and Staley in straight sets on the week. The cross-town rivalry goes down Tuesday at number 3 Liberty.
7. Olathe Northwest (12-4)
A perfect week for Northwest, including quality wins over Olathe West and Mill Valley. Don’t be shocked if they get a good run of W’s going.
8. Olathe West (20-3)
West is the team that has turned some heads this season. They continue to roll through their schedule and added only a loss to #7 Olathe Northwest last week. Could this be the start of a rivalry?
9. Heritage Christian (16-5)
A runner-up finish in the heavy 5A Seaman tournament moves the Class 3 bunch up a spot in this week’s rankings. They were dropped by Seaman twice but beat Lansing and Kearney (NE). Is it too early for us to pick them for a repeat in Class 3A?
10. Blue Valley (17-6)
The Tigers suffered a couple of losses in their Saturday tournament. One was to Washburn, which isn’t anything to be down about. The other was to Bennington. They did get some good wins over Lawrence Free-State, Mill Valley, and Wichita-ranked program Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
11. Lee’s Summit West (12-5)
The Titans swept the Park Hills in proper and South last week. They showed they can battle through a whole contest getting the Trojans in a 5-set slugfest.
12. Mill Valley (14-5)
Let’s welcome Mill Valley to the rankings. With their five losses, four teams are either ranked above them here or they are Washburn Rural. Their schedule gets tougher down the home stretch.
13. Baldwin (15-1)
Another perfect week for Baldwin. A big test awaits Monday night against Emporia, one of their toughest matches to date.
14. Lansing (???)
We don’t have all the updates from Lansing on their MaxPreps page…but we do know they finished third which means they won quite a few matches.
15. Pleasant Hill (9-3)
We want to give another small school some love and it will be Pleasant Hill. They have some good wins on their resume over some traditionally strong St. Louis area teams. They also beat previously ranked St. Pius X.
