Power Lafayette came to the state on a roll, continuing in the semifinal win over Liberty North 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22. The Lancer’s defense was nasty all match scooping up 90 digs and 11 team blocks. In the other semifinal, Kickapoo escaped St. Dominic 25-17, 22-25, 17-25, 25-23, and 15-10. Liberty North would knock off St. Dominic in the 3rd place match 16-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.
Maya Witherspoon Maya Witherspoon 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2025 State #44 Nation MO – 2025 – Outside – Lafayette
The super sophomore led the Lancers back into the state championship match with a solid semifinal performance. Whether hitting on the pin or coming out of the middle, Maya was efficient anywhere she got the ball. My favorite aspect of her was her nasty jump serve and her line shots. Maya will be a force to deal with for two more years and is a top-rated talent.
Carlie Cisneros Carlie Cisneros 6'0" | OH Liberty North | 2024 State #7 Nation MO – 2024 – Outside – Liberty North
Ok, Carlie is the one player I was excited to watch, and she does not disappoint. Her volleyball IQ is off the charts. Her jump serves precise and deadly. Her defense is outstanding, and her passing is on point. She is a true talent at every skill on the court. She didn’t set in the match, but I’m sure she would be excellent at it. In the semifinals against Lafayette, she hammered 20 kills and had 17 digs. In the 3rd Place game, she finished with 18 kills and 29 digs. What are you waiting for if you’ve not watched her in person?
Kayla Robertson Kayla Robertson 6'0" | MB St. Dominic | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Outside – St. Dominic
Another D1 player in the semifinals was for the Crusaders, and Kayla can hammer. In the semifinal loss to Kickapoo, she would rack up 17 kills and get five digs. In the 3rd place match to Liberty North, again was the team lead in kills with 13. I remember watching her during her first year and knew she would be a dominant player. Crusaders have this one for one more year, and I’m sure she will keep producing.
Bella Faria Bella Faria 5'10" | OH Kickapoo | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Outside – Kickapoo
Another D1 performer in the semifinals that I was excited to watch in person was Faria. In the win over St. Dominic, she would finish with 16 kills and added nine digs. It should be interesting to see what she can do against Lafayette’s defense. For Faria and company to pull out the championship, she must have a monster game.
Alyssa Nelson Alyssa Nelson 5'8" | S Wildwood | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Setter – Lafayette
Nelson runs a quick offense and distributes the ball to five big strong hitters. Nelson finished with 51 assists and added 16 digs in the semifinal win over Liberty North. She’ll need to keep the stable distribution tomorrow to give the Lancers a chance to win title number 7.
Lafayette Defense
Mia Moser, Alyssa Nelson Alyssa Nelson 5'8" | S Wildwood | 2024 State MO , Allison Risley Allison Risley 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2024 State #187 Nation MO , Madi Hartman, Audrey Savacool, and Molly Muschick were ridiculous in the semifinal win over Liberty North. These six players would dig up monster attacks from the Eagles all match. Lafayette’s team defense would finish with 90 digs, and the passing was on target.
