The CA Kickoff Recruiting Combine showed traits of power and control exhibited during and after contact. Below is a review of the patient 2025 liberos and defensive specialists that put in effort and allowed for a clear takeaway of their strengths.
Ashlyn Victa (2025) | 5’2” | DS/L | BAVC
Setters that prefer time and the challenge of setting higher passes will gravitate to a serve-receive formation with Ashlyn Victa. Her platform angle and posture open up opportunities. Additionally, she establishes space with an excellent extension of her shoulders to make that angle very solid. Following that extension was a great collapse to maintain taking power off the ball. For Victa, getting from ready position to point of contact is also effective and efficient.
Willa Swanson (2025) | 5’5” | DS/L | BAVC
What is excellent about Willa Swanson is that she performs as instructed. Her ready position and body position before and during performance appears as described for a clinic. She has the mobility to get low and undoubtedly wears a spot on the court for her readiness. With that textbook groundwork and flexibility, she has a solid foundation to advance her skills quickly.
Danica Resse Rubi (2025) | 5’2” | DS/L | Club Solano Volleyball
Danica Resse Rubi and her relaxed posture provide eased watching from a distance. Rubi contacts the ball not to close and not too far from her body. That space and a lack of stretching through extension alleviate stress on the body. Like many at this event, her low passing really makes for opportunities of offensive speed. Be mindful of her going forward.
Hope Hess (2025) | DS/L
Hope Hess already maintains an action that many elite liberos do. The split step. In addition to this preparation move, she is flexible that allows her body to pick up low, serves or attacks in front of her. What looks like an impossibility, Hess contorts her body to enable a great range to make a pass. She is also ready and capable of overhead passing.
Norah Mehanna (2025) | 5’3” | DS/L | MVVC
First step is such an important action in the serve-receive process. Decisiveness and control are two attributes Norah Mehanna displayed to make for an excellent first step. This was initiated by a consistent reset of her feet to a right foot slightly in front of left foot posture. Her adaptability during a serve landing short demonstrates an understanding of angles. During those serves, the debate of an ironed-out surface or a guiding “J stroke” will undoubtedly reach her mind.
