A team made up of students east of the KC metro area split two sets against the Metro Heat in both teams’ second match of the day.
Here is the fourth and final scouting report on Sunflower Wave play from Lawrence.
This was by far the most interesting team scouted during the AM Wave. All the players at this age could move to different positions for their high school programs than what they were playing for their club team. At times they played like deer stuck in headlights, and other times like a well-oiled machine.
Alexa Grenovich, 5’10”, DS, Piper, ‘25
Grenovich had the best all-around match. She finished with 10 serve receptions, three digs, and three kills. Heading into her junior season she could round out into more of a hitter or become a defensive specialist. She has the frame to dominate near the net, but she had a better match defensively.
Kiya Wells, 5’4”, DS, Piper, ‘25
Wells is another player whose position could change. She had three digs and one kill in the scouted match. She has quick feet and at times communicated well on the court. Piper went 20-13 in Class 5A play in 2022. Wells and Grenovich could play key roles in determining the Pirates’ success in ’23.
Ella Boote, 5’7”, MH, Heritage Christian, ‘25
Boote is an interesting prospect. She plays high school ball at Heritage Christian Academy in Overland Park. A team that in ’23 was loaded for bear and included multiple Division I talents. At first glance, she has a very athletic frame for volleyball, but at a second glance, one can tell she hasn’t had a ton of playing experience yet. Boote had two digs and one kill for KC Piper Impact. She also plays soccer. Keep an eye on this prospect and see how she develops as an athlete.
