The athletes to mention for their effort and resilience are spotlighted below in the few words describing their playing style and what makes them make their own luck.
Tyler Nicholas (2024) | 5’8” | OH | Xceleration
A straight ahead hitter, like Tyler Nicholas, has opportunities to having a large variety of approach patterns. Nicholas is really great at adjusting her timing to find a large variety of approach patterns. Most everything she does is small to big footwork that certain is consistent with a track athlete. Something needed for volleyball being such an urgent sport. Not only does her footwork change to adapt to a set, but also she utilizes a lot of arm action to generate her closing speed. That combination of footwork and arm action really shows as she sets up a block well.
Kyriah Trefen (2024) |5’4” | DS/L | Point West
When watching Kyriah Trefen, it appears she really listen and puts into action phrases like freeze or hold in reference of what to do with her passing platform. After contact, there is a deliberate action of maintain the placement of her platform to ensure accuracy. Additionally, Trefen prepares herself well before her platform placement with long, quick strides. The coordination to move and continue with precise passing targets is the culmination of that preparation and discipline after contact. When the play dictates her to set, she aims to set a high out of system ball.
Addyson Benefield (2024) | 6’1” | OPP | Surfside
A great arm, one like that that Addyson Benefield has, is an asset she retains to earn point after point. Her crosscourt hit is certainly a hit that defenders must dig their heels in to the ground to get the ball up. Additionally, when Benefield lines up to serve, she hits an excellent hard driven, flat, clean jump float serve that goes downward immediately on contact. With all that offensive firepower, she also is helpful as a blocker. Independent arm movement, specifically a left arm drop to the seam of a block really builds up a solid front line defense.
McKenna Collins (2023) |5’11” | OH/OPP | Mizuno Long Beach Generating more is a evolutionary demand on athletics and McKenna Collins achieves this with her first-rate arm use. Flip flopping between two point scoring hits is an incredible ability to manage and Collins does that with two shots. These two are a body rotation turn to zone 1 and a high hit rebounding out of bounds from a blockers arms. The reading of where of blocker and defender is also brings recognition of her reading ability. She generates more by making those attacks with just a simple step close approach too!
