The Elite finished tied for third in the tournament with a 4-2 match record. They swept Pool Play on Sunday morning to qualify for the gold bracket.
Prep Dig scouts watched the first match of the tournament for the Topeka squad which ended up being a two-set loss to the Manhattan Mamba 17-1 team.
Here is the second scouting report from the two-day tournament in Lawrence.
Maya Pridgett, 5’9”, MH, Cair Paravel, ‘24
Pridgett was the most dominant player I scouted at the Heart Challenge Cup. She is a difference maker and Topeka Elite is a different team when she is not on the court. She finished with five kills and five blocks. She is a jumper and a physical beast. She is a front-row-only player for Topeka Elite. There is no doubt she can play collegiately, the question is at what level. She seems like a solid Division II prospect and a fringe Division I. I would not be surprised if she ends up signing with an out-of-state non-power conference Division I program. That’s quite the prediction, in my spare time, I read Tarot Cards.
Addison Brooks, 5’8”, RS, Topeka West, ‘24
Topeka West has a right-side hitter to watch next season in Addison Brooks. She had two kills in the early match against the Mamba. West is a program that gets overlooked in Topeka, but coaches might not want to overlook Brooks. She is a raw talent who can play back row if needed. She projects as an NAIA or JUCO prospect.
Myiah Soderberg, 5’3”, DS, Washburn Rural, ‘25
Soderberg is a spunky defensive specialist who is “playing up.” She had three serve receptions and two digs. She played junior varsity as a sophomore at Washburn Rural. It will be interesting to see how her game grows over two more high school seasons. Rural is a loaded volleyball program so she competes with high-level talent at practice and in matches.
