Continue ReadingSummer is right around the corner and that means team camps/scrimmages and in season practices are on the horizon. We are going to take a look at a few players from each class on both sides of the state that could have a break out season in 2023. We will start with the largest class 6A.
Players:
Kiya Colvin Kiya Colvin 5'11" | OH Owasso | 2024 State OK – Middle Blocker for Owasso. Owasso was just on the outside looking in last season. But, this is an exceptional senior class they will have in 2023. They have been starters and big time players for a few years now. Kyia Colvin being one of them. She hit middle and set this club season but I forsee her nearly exclusively hitting and blocking for her school team. I believe if you add the experience of this team, the talent and the hunger after missing last season, all together. You will find Owasso back in the 6A state playoffs next season and Kiya being a huge reason why.
Kate Schneeberg Kate Schneeberg 6'1" | S Bishop Kelley | 2024 State OK – Setter for Bishop Kelley. BK has been dominate for years in whichever class they are placed in. Players like Kate are the reason they are and stay dominate. She has been a starter for multiple years of her high school career. Her tall frame, high touch point and high level of experience brings a ton of value to the court. She will be looking to go out her senior year on top!
Hannah Bates Hannah Bates 6'0" | S Stillwater | 2024 State OK – Setter for Stillwater. I was finally able to watch Hannah play this club season. She works hard both on defense and when setting. She also a nice serve that has velocity behind it. Stillwater had a new head coach last season, we shall see in year two if the culture and game plan will begin to take root and flourish.
Reagan Holt Reagan Holt 5'5" | DS/L Broken Arrow | 2024 State OK – Defensive Specialist for Broken Arrow. She plays for TPV this club season and I have seen a ton of growth from her. I am interested to see how much she becomes part of the lineup at the largest school in the state and the impact she has for them. She has great movement in serve receive and in transition defense. She can be quite stingy for hitters to deal with.
Brenna Weaver Brenna Weaver 5'8" | S Booker T Washington | 2025 State OK – Setter for Booker T. Washington. Brenna was a big time player last season for the hornets. Her ability to track down a ball and get it to the outside made for a smooth offense with the likes of Arianna Brown and Kendall Johnson Kendall Johnson DS/L OK out there. With another year under their belt with experience, can BTW start to put together a team that will start ruffling feathers of some of the big dogs?
Wrap Up:
Class 6A is the largest class in the state. Last year the East Side sent 4 of the 8 teams to the state tournament. The four were: Jenks, Bishop Kelley, Bixby and Broken Arrow. Teams such as BTW, Owasso, and Bartlesville all will be looking to take someone’s spot in 2023. We cant wait to cover the 2023 high school season even better than we did this past season.
