The 14s age was the largest with 32 teams attending. Overall the tournament had right at 100 teams competing between ages 11 and 18. Titan continues to host large scale Oklahoma tournaments and allow for a ton of players and teams to be seen in one location. We are going to take a look at some of the BIG time players we got to watch in action this weekend at The Big Show.
Gold Bracket:
Semis: NWAJS 16 Elite Black over Alpha Volleyball Academy 25-15 25-12
Semis: Virago 16-1 over KS Rise 16-3 25-13 25-15
Championship: NWAJS 16 Elite Black over Virago 16-1 25-11 27-25
Players:
Ella Bryan #2, Outside Hitter for NWAJS 16EB. Colleges need to be following her if they aren’t already. She is a very mature hitter who has power AND accuracy. She can swing line and purposely tool the block better than most 16s I’ve seen this season. She regularly was blowing up setters all weekend. Her out of system is no easy ball just thrown over, it is hard driven and rarely an error. She also causes havoc from the service line with her float serve. You could write a sticky note, put it on the ball and read it as you try to pass it.
Casidey Foutch #4, Middle Blocker for Virago 16-1. If there was one person that caused problems this weekend for Ella Bryan and crew, it was CJ. During the championship match, she recorded nearly double digit blocks. Defensively she has great timing and a solid vertical. When she times it up, gets high above the net and presses into the hitters area, she is a tough person to deal with. She is really starting to blossom into a solid part of the defensive and offensive game that Virago possess.
Rayleen Gladden #24, Middle Blocker for NWAJS 16EB. She is the defensive anchor up front for this team. She has the frame and athleticism to be extremely good in the near future. She moves laterally very quickly and smoothly to close blocks. Throw in how hard she works to be avavaible in transition and you have a player that impacts the game in a multitude of ways. She definitely had her fair share of stuff blocks all weekend long!
Brooklyn Kuster #8, Libero for Virago 16-1. She came up big again for her team this weekend. She passed a 1.76 average for the entire weekend. She was the consistency in SR that her team needed to be offensive. She also had multiple huge digs in the championship match against the best offensive team in the tournament. She covers a lot of court in the deep 1/3 while in transition. She has been making it tough for opposing teams to score.
Wrap Up:
NWAJS 16 EB is well worth the watch this season. They are deserving of being ranked in the top 500 in the nation. Virago continues to make gold brackets and nearly always finish top 5 overall. AVA 16-1 was no slouch, they pushed Virago to 3 in pool play. First year club, OKVA 16 National, bounced back on Sunday and finished the tournament as the silver champions.
