Continue ReadingThis past weekend we had multiple national qualifiers going on around the nation but we also had a couple local tournaments as well. One of which, was The Big Show in Tulsa. The 14s age was the largest with 32 teams attending. Overall the tournament had right at 100 teams competing between ages 11 and 18. Titan continues to host large scale Oklahoma tournaments and allow for a ton of players and teams to be seen in one location. We are going to take a look at some of the BIG time players we we able to watch in action this weekend at The Big Show tournament.
Gold Bracket:
Semis: Code Blue 17 Shock over 405 Drive 18-1 25-13 25-10
Semis: Virago 18-1 over Tamales 18-1 25-8 25-6
Championship: Virago 18-1 over Code Blue 17 Shock 25-15 25-9
Players:
Raegan Reeves #36, Setter for Virago 18-1. She is the 5-1 setter for this team and does a good job of running the offense. She has strong hands and fast feet. One helps her get the ball all over the court and the other allows her to get to plenty of passes. Her serve has also been a point of frustration for opposing teams. She makes good contact to eliminate spin on the ball and create the “Float” effect.
Faith McKelvey #2, Defensive Specialist for Code Blue 17 Shock. Faith got moved up the 1s team after being a solid back row presence for their 2s team. Now she is continuing to be a back row rock for this team to stand on. She is a hard worker and does a great job of communicating.
Taylor Dixon #5, Outside Hitter for 405 Drive 18-1. She is a recent Rose State commit. She has a been a cornerstone for this team all season long. Her ability to effect the game in a handful of ways makes her invaluable to this team. This is a big reason why they finished 4th overall after going 3-0 in pool play then dropping the semi finals match against Code Blue and then Tamales getting revenge.
Campbell Roadman #7, Libero for Virago 18-1. She is a recent Coffeyville college commit. She covers her hitters well and is always moving around. She is also agile and able to track down long distance passes. This makes life rough for opposing offenses who are trying new ways to find a kill. Campbell is a part of a solid SR core that Virago 18-1 possess. She will likely do well as a Red Raven next season.
Wrap Up:
Virago 18-1 Dominated from start to finish this past weekend. They were able to put up a perfect 10-0 set record. They have finished top 10 in every tournament this season thus far. They have also accepted a bid to play this summer at nationals. Code Blue has definitely progressed every step of the way this season. 405 Drive being a first year club has put together a solid first year for themselves.
